I see alot of aspies on this site that know alot about computers, but are either unemployed or in another field. I have to ask you all if you're so good with computers how come you're not purseing a career in the IT field?

I love using PCs but am no good at programming or repair. If it can't be fixed with a paper clip or duct tape, screw it. The last job I had with computers was data entry. Dead boring, as Laz says.

Unfortunately the former part of the statement is correct. It is also not easy to keep up the changing certifications and paying for the testing to attain them as well as any future upgrades in training. I was trained in network admin and computer service tech and trying to find a job it in where I live is darn near impossible and with two people in the family trained to do the same job, it doesn't work out always well. Also I chose to stay home for a while to raise my sons.

It's easy to find a job in IT where I'm from. Although I'm in N. Va and that's where we have a crazy big defense sector and a gigantic tech sector (AOL, Sprint, Verizon, anyone else you can name have their headquarters here).

People are basically begging people to do IT. And CS is even more in demand than that. I'm sure boondocks, usa isn't gonna have much IT demand, but that doesn't mean it isn't in demand.

EDIT: I don't know about england..

Although I do agree that the average IT job isn't really as interesting as some other fields, there are very interesting jobs that come up now and then (security for gigantic companies, for instance)

I'm very good with computers, i just lack the qualifications, think i should go on a course and get the qualifications and get myself a job that's not dead end or the like

I do, however, repair computers for friends, and I help them out if they can't do a particular task with one

I am very interested and I really enjoy going on my computer, and my parents say I have an obsession with it. I am planning to do ICT at college, and I think I would like it, but I don't know. My brother did and ICT course there and said it was really boring, so maybe it's just quite boring to study...

I will... once I actually get my degree. For now I just do little freelance jobs here and there - friends with problems, or I'll buy some parts off eBay and put a computer together to sell.

The market as far as IT goes has improved somewhat ever since the economy went up a little bit here in the US. Also most companies are willing to pay for additional training or certifications.
