A question About AVG for you AVG fans

This is like one of my first posts. I'm a newb hear but an experinced member of Aspies for freedom.

Anyway...

Why do a lot of people like AVG? I'm an Avast fan Boy my self (I beta tested Avast 5 on the day when it came out) Feature wise avast kick's AVG free's butt and matches Avg Anti-virus Premium.
The detection rate is slightly higher for avast then it is for AVG... and Avast runs on WAY less Cpu speed and memory then AVG! Avast also has this thing called a boot time scan witch is useful for getting rid of rootkits embedded in the system memory.
and yet people still say AVG is better....
Please Explain this to me.


I'm testing out Nod 32 AV and Avg Anti virus Pro (Not the suite but not the free one)
I am Pleasantly surprised about Nod 32 as it is impressive. Avg Is not.


Also what AV do you use and why?

Notice that AVG has no Anti-rootkit or Web,network,p2p,IM,Email shields.
And yet Avg's Footprint is still larger then Avast's.

used it for years; it's free and it works...

It depends upon the environment as to which antivirus I use. For business clients, I use ClamAV because its license allows business use. For clients personal use, I recommend AVG. The only thing I have against Avast is the mandatory registration. For my personal and business use, I do not really need an antivirus due to the fact that I stay away from M$ operating systems. However, to protect Windows users who may get forwarded emails from me, I use ClamAV.

I use bitdefender

On the rare occasions that I boot into windows I use Avast. When I was a regular Windows user I tried Bitdefender, Norton, Mcafee, AVG and NOD, non of them were as effective as Avast



Mostly I use Ubuntu so pretty much no need for antimalware/virus software
