Anybody try Karmic Koala Beta yet (Ubuntu 9.10)

Not due for release until November is Ubuntu 9.10. Has anybody tried the Beta yet and if you did how do you like it

No, sorry. I'm still using Hardy Heron and only upgrade the long term support versions.

I don't beta test and I think Karmic will be released late this month around the same time as Windows 7. I'm using Jaunty right now.

I just got done with the update and love it. The download center is easier to use as well as Synaptics. The boot loaders where completely redisigned as well as the menus. Software also installs at a quicker pace and is less error prone. Maybe if lucky I won't have to due with the dreaded broken packages.

I'll upgrade to Karmic when it goes stable. It's going to require a reformat and reinstall for me, since I'll want to use ext4 (it was unstable in Jaunty for me) and grub2 will be shaking things up. I'm more excited for this spring's projected Debian release.

I always use even early alpha releases.

Today I will be installing the beta on a special computer with a web camera. I am going to do some time lapse videos.

I am stalling putting 9.10 on my production machine as I will have to do a lot of configuration.

Well I put it on my production computer and currently I like it. The new boot loader animation is a pain but I'll see about reverting to the 9.04 one. They also made it easier to access Ubuntu one, upgraded GNOME as well as added to new application store. They also upgraded grub and made it easier to use and more colorful.

Ubuntu 9.10 BETA (Got rid of XP a few months ago. If I wanted gaming I got Bejewled 2 running in WINE as well as a Wii.)

There are themes for boot loaders. You dont have to stick with the default.

How do you do that. I did it once in Hardy Haron but forgot.

It might be too early, but I would have a look at www.gnome-look.org I believe it is the splash screen you are talking about. There is a section for those.

I've heard rumors of ditching the splash screen for 10.04. Supposedly it's going to boot so fast you won't even need a splash screen.

Finally, a Karmic Koala I can install (Asus G2S). The release candidate is running happily - even doing a fair job of the touchpad straight out of the box. Well, most of the time

I have it on my main computer. I quite like it, though the replacement for pidgin, called empathy, is buggy.

I will wait november to get the stable release, I am still playing with Jaunty 64bit

Only five more days.

Was just released today. So far today In had a least 2 customers request me format their hard drives and put Ubuntu today due to the 9.10 release. Not to mention all the disk I been handing out.
