Favorite Browser...why?

I have a handful of browsers on my machine, because (horribly) many websites won't work with a certain browser or will only work with (for example) IE but only if it hasn't been updated to the newest version. Soooo stupid. At school (U. Michigan) we can only use Firefox or an old version of IE when we take online exams.

It's such a pain in my butt! When I am working (entering data or trying to access a training site), about 40% of the time when I call the helpline because I can't access something, they tell me, "Oooooh...Safari...that's why it won't work," or "What is Firefox? I've never heard of that." It makes it super hard for programmers, when they have to write and rewrite code to try to make it work with all browsers and all versions of browsers (hellooooo, IE!!). It's not only annoying, but totally impractical.

What browser do you most often use? Anyone have tech opinions about which ones are the best for the most sites, which ones are fastest, etc.?

I have Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari, and I probably have Netscape Navigator buried someplace on here.

If you answer "other," please tell me what that other is! Thanks.

Anyway, my favorite browser is Google Chrome despite my favorite college (I'm still 2 months away from graduation in Singapore) using Firefox.

Why? Becuase Chrome rules man! Chrome is sleek, fast and kind of reliable. And my favorite Google searches work pretty well... Though it is not accepted in many many websites that I know of. I only have Chrome and IE7 (to back up my Chrome)...

I use Firefox and Safari mostly. (Actually I use nightly Webkit builds, not Apple's stable release of Safari)

FF is the most versatile, secure, and featured browser (Seamonkey's cool too if you don't need any esoteric add-ons and you need a mail client as well). Safari is for speed. Chrome I don't like so much. Opera has some nice points, but it fails in a few spots that are enough to disqualify it.

But Firefox isn't that well integrated to Google as much as Chrome does... Sigh.

Firefox. I love it because it's fast, it filters out malware sites, and it gives you access to thousands of plugins. I currently have a plugin called Web Developer that allows me to toggle Javascript, cookies, and stylesheets on and off, and validate the HTML and CSS on my web pages, among other things.

Most people who use Internet Explorer are probably not aware that any other browsers exist. That's why they use Internet Explorer. I call it Micro$oft-centrism.

Fortunately, IE's market share seems on the decline and Firefox is on the rise...

I use IE7 and Firefox 3.5.x I sometimes use IE, but then I get really annoyed when I load a new tab, an EMPTY tab. It takes 10 times longer than Firefox which has about 10-15 open at once. It takes it's time to open NOTHING; just about:blank.

Firefox all the way. I've tried Netscape, tried Google Chrome, didn't like it and uninstalled it.

Other - SeaMonkey.

I use IE when NOTHING else is available, and occasionally under my XP running under VirtualBox, when I'm sorting out problems for people who won't stop using IE.

I also use Firefox a lot... but just regret the fact that it isn't SeaMonkey.

I have Opera (proprietary, so I don't like it), Konqueror (not quite enough features, yet), Amaya and various text-based browsers installed here.

I don't really like the idea of Chrome, so far, particularly the stolen name - which is like coming up with a brand of paint called "Paint".

I've not tried Safari, although I suppose I should - just to be fair - and also to find out a way for people to suppress the red link while using Safari. (How does it handle local user style sheets?)

I've never used SeaMonkey at all. In fact, I can only vaguely remember reading the name once or twice...

I voted for Firefox, even if for the plugins alone, which allows me to block the ads that this site and many others use to keep costs down.. I remember downloading Opera when Firefox was going extremely slow, but I hated it. HATED it. Terrible interface.

Internet Explorer is, of course, terrible and I can't comment on the others as I have not used them.

Firefox, it is the most secure on the market as well as the most customisable. Not to mention is compatible to most web standards. Oh and I love the Add-ons.

Opera comes in 2nd thinks to the fact that its good on adequated machines.(Below a 800MHz Processor.) Not to mention stuff like speed-dailer and the fact that Opera is also fast at loading web pages.

I'm going to have to say Chrome. I like webkit alot, especially now that gecko has become terribly bloated and keeps throwing things into the engine whenever new functionality is implemented, I like Google's approach to building a browser, minimal yet highly functional, seperates the engine from the other browser elements, runs each tab as a process, does not spawn an entirely different window for downloads etc. I also prefer WebKit's LGPL (KHTML) roots vs Mozilla's proprietary netscape roots.

Seamonkey wins based on name alone.

It's been a long time since I've used Opera. I think I'm still hanging onto FF as my favorite though.

I also use Opera and Lynx. Lynx is fast because it's text-only, and it lets you go on Usenet, which most browsers don't. Opera has good graphics quality, but that's about it. I don't use it much anymore, except to watch pr0n.

Chrome on OS X
Firefox on other operating systems

Chrome uses Webkit, which I prefer to Gecko and to the various rendering engines used by Internet Explorer, but I hate Chrome's lack of text-labeled menus on operating systems other than OS X.

Chrome loads pages very quickly and has a generally simple interface. Many extensions are available for it.

In Safari's preferences there is a place where users may select a local stylesheet.

I use Firefox. Even though it crashes every so often. Most of the time, it saves the tabs when crashing anyway.
