I want to know which seach engine do you like the best i Persnally like Google it more orgnaized than Yahoo.

Yahoo's algorithm searches for the most relevant while Google's algorithm searches for the most popular.

Thus, for searches, Yahoo has a superior algorithm.

Google's long tail search is easily the best of the lot.

they are both useful for different things, so i use 'em both. google's "froogle" [product search] is quite handy for comparison-shopping in one browser window.

I find that search engines are getting too clever, and the cleverness can't be switched off. For instance, if I want a page that contains exactly "blue ski", I will actually get both "blue sky" and "blue mountain ski" in the top ten.

It is wonderful having a search engine correct spelling, use a thesaurus for alternatives and find related terms - but not always.

At one time simply putting quotes round the term would force results that matched exactly, then it needed a plus and quotes, and now it seems that forcing exact matches is not possible.

evidence? Actually the point of google algorithm is to find relevant results. However relevance is connected to usage among other things, any algorithm that ignores that fact is going to return piss poor results. When goggle came on the scene it quickly dominated the marked due to the large improvement in result back in the day.

I'm puzzled by your claims too. The only thing yahoo has done better than google is its directory. Back then search algorithms are still in infancy, so manually categorized list of sites is very useful. But as the number of sites grows, the manpower needed to maintain the lists rises exponentially. That's when google's algorithm-based search rise to prominence. That's not to say yahoo can't improve their algorithm too. But as far as my experience goes, google is still the better one. Seriously, in my opinion even Bing is better than yahoo.

You have to see relevance in computing terms. It is a non trivial exercise and it is only attempting to guess what a human would find find relevant. Of course it is greatly shaped by how suitable the pages are for indexing, the amount of information available and current search habits. Google not only wants to return relevant result, it wand publishers to make pages that are friendly to bot and human. there is a balance to be made. of course people can use black SEO tactics to produce spam results. The counter measures can make searches more temperamental.

One of the hardest thing to search for is a concept where you haven't got the words or they are non specific. Even with lateral thinking this can be difficult. This is why I think it is important to have different sorts of resource like news, blogs, and books search.

No matter how intelligent search engines are they can only go on the information provided. that is why they is an effort to create "smart web", where there is more information on the nature of data presented, again the is a still the problem of honesty.

Yahoo isn't much of an innovator it simply acquires technology. It has been playing catchup for years.

Thanks for the Scroogle link, might start using that. I am a little scared of how Google now does everything and collects all our info.

Until yesterday I always opened up a new tab and used Google.

Today I have an updated Yahoo toolbar that allows me to search a variety of selected sites and even opens the result in a new tab for me.
