I've lately developed a compulsion to eat pineapple--and I mean RELENTLESSLY eat pineapple. I figured this being the science forum, this might be the best place to ask...

Are there any possible harmful side-effects from pineapple abuse?

If you crave it, there maybe a nutrient in the pineapple that you are deficient in.

Too much of anything is bad for you.

If you are pregnant you risk miscarriage.

Well, it is highly acidic like a lot of fruit juices, so I would avoid drinking it right before bed, as it could cause Acid Reflux. The sugars in fruit juice generally metabolize faster and more efficiently than refined sugars, however, canned pineapple often has extra corn syrup sugar added to it, so read your labels and buy the pure fruit.

Porn pros claim pineapple juice adds sweetness to semen, so if you have a SO, it might be a plus to them.

I agree that if you're having a very specific food craving like that that lasts for days on end, there's probably something in that food that you're body is in immediate need of replenishing. Go for it.

Oh, no canned pineapple. Fresh only. I've eaten two pineapples in the last two weeks.

the only semi uniqu thing i can think that pineapple has is proteases that may help break down protein in your gut. whether this is an advantage, disadvatage or neither i dunno

Two pineapples in two weeks sounds ok to me. When I was a kid we used to have them like that at home - a fresh one about once a week and I ate like a little monster. I would be aware of any acid alkaline shifts though. You might throw yourself into a more acid state and if it goes too far, you might feel uncomfortable. If you get acidic symptoms, just scale back and counter it with eating alkaline foods like green vegetables and aloe juice.

Aloe juice? No kidding? I wasn't aware that it was alkaline. Must check that out.
