I've used Windows for my entire life and was terrified of Linux. It looked like you had to be a programs just to install programs. I put Ubuntu on my netbook last year and have finally put on my main PC as my main OS. Seen as I don't play as many games on my PC nowadays I didn't feel like I needed Windows any more. I'm sure things will come along I'll missed. It's being surprise how easy Ubuntu is to use which is another reason which made me switch too. I'm testing out Ubuntu 64 and had no driver issues I'm just saying as I've been told the 32bit version as more support.

Not really a criticism, but I was surprised at how hungry of resources Ubuntu was. I recently put it on an older laptop and it ground to a halt, probably even a bit worse than Windows. I only had a specific app I wanted to use the machine for (NTOP), so I just rebuilt it using good old Debian and it was much more usable.

yeah, a modern system of any kind really needs a gig or more of memory (your mileage may vary). I dont believe linux is an exception to this, at least not when using a well rounded modern desktop environment. overall the linux desktop has become heavier than the XP desktop.

Ubuntu 10.04 worked flawless with my netbook. So I new it would work amazingly with my main PC. What I was extremely impressed with the most is how it supported all my hardware from a straight install. Amazing!! ! Now I must restart my PC a few times to enjoy the fast boot times. lol

Yeah, it keeps getting faster for the first half dozen boots.

I seem to only be able to watch Youtube videos in 360p and I'm unable to watch the videos in full screen. Also another odd thing is double clicking embedded Youtube videos in vista use to take me directly to the Youtube page where it was uploaded but not any more.

Youtube have an HTML5 trial for animation instead of using the standard Flash based video, it would be interesting to see how that would work for you? might be worth a try (it's the way things are going in the future)

Which version are you using? If you're using Ubunu 8.04 Hardy Heron, you can upgrade directly to version 10.04 Lucid Lynx over the Internet (like Hardy Heron, Lucid is also a long term support version). Just don't make the mistake I made, which was to reset the computer before the upgrade completed. The good news is that there are usually options in Linux when something goes wrong. That is not always the case with Windows.
