Howdy, the science museum I work at just found a 2001 series commodore PET in deep storage. They gave it to me since I run the technology side of their education department. What a present!

The computer is not currently working, but seems to be a prime candidate for repair efforts. Its a great 'museum piece' at the moment, sitting in my computer lab, but Id like it to be actually functional. Heck, Id like to solve a Project Euler problem on it!

I opened the hood and found that one of a pair of blue wires coming down from the monitor is loose. I do not know where it connects to, but the still-connected wire of the pair is attached to a small capacitor. I can not say with certainty what type, as its impossible to see that side of it, but similar capacitors on the assembly lead me to believe it is a "IZ 10V" (made in Mexico), possibly 12V.

I found an image of the 2001 series pet opened up (above), and this image lacks the pair of blue wires in question. Also, the orange capacitors are a shade of green similar to the board.

The markings on the main logic assembly are as follows:

* Handwritten in black permanent market, the number "20783".
* Engraved near it, the phrase "COPYRIGHT 1978 COMMODORE INTERNATIONAL"
* Engraved on the side, the phrase "PET MAIN LOGIC ASSY 320132"

When I turn the PET on I get the scrambled characters on screen as expected, but no welcome screen. Banging the table resulted in the screen flashing white, as did fiddling with the external cassette player's connection. Neither cassette player rewinds/fast forwards/plays properly, with or without (even when 'blind-typing' the Shift+Run/Stop or LOAD+return commands).

I will be uploading a video of it momentarily.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You might be able to find a PDF of the Service manual online.

I can't help you with anything, but I gotta say nice find. Those sorts of computers bring back an awesome nostalgic feeling.
