How many digits of Pi do you know?

I memorized 200 decimal places. I wonder if a lot of people with Asperger's syndrome like to memorize pi.

170 so far... A while back I told myself I'd stop at 100 (I just wanted to be in the 'Pi 100-Club'), but obviously I kept going :D I like to use this page to help me: http://x42.com/cgi-bin/pitrainer.cgi

Why bother memorizing pi ? If you are going to spend a lot of time learning something, why not make it something that is actually useful? Or artistic?

I've never tried memorising pi. If I tried I'd be able to remember it to a lot of places.

It was one of the questions people used to go around asking me at school. I told them 3.14, because that's all I knew.

I much prefer memorising words and names, such as Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

Memorizing pi has several benefits:
-It can improve one's ability to remember numbers.
-It demonstrates nerd pride.
-It is much easier for me than for neurotypicals.
-It is fun, just like reading the dictionary or watching the Weather Channel for two hours. :)

I think it is a slightly better use of time than playing video games or watching a non-educational television program.

BTW: I memorized 80 more digits last night.

...A village in Wales which, incredibly enough, uses its name as its domain name. Yep... http://llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.co.uk/ I believe it's pronounced "Llanfair PG".

I knew (and still know) about 140. It started when a NT friend and I entered into a pi war :D

After I renounced my math-nerdery earlier this year, I have seen no reason to further pursue it.

When I was around 12 years old (many years ago) I memorised it to around 150 decimal places. Everyone else thought it was a strange thing to do. However, since discovering Aspergers and this site it seems everyone here is doing it

Maybe it should be one of the Aspergers diagnostic questions: How many places do you know pi to?

Out of curiosity does anyone else break it down like me into little sing along chunks:

3. 141 592 65 35 8 979 323 84626 43383 etc

3.14

And that, in my opinion as a gen-yoo-wine but thoroughly out of practice MPhys, is exactly how much I need to know about pi. I mean, really, that's good enough for any rough practical calculation I'm ever likely to need, and if I ever need more, I'd press the pi button on the calculator.

That's not to say that if I was using it on a regular basis I wouldn't end up remembering it for a few more decimal places, but that'd be just from habituation - I'd never make an attempt to memorise it (and it wouldn't work if I did!)
