off the bat i can see it used in
robotics, car anti collision sensonrs, home automation, industrial pressence sensors...no dobt many others

there is a reward for hacking the neoto range finder
though there are a coulple issues
1. you can only get it with the robot at a price of 400, the reward is only 300
2. the slip ring has only 1000 hrs of run time

wow the prize for hacking the neato laser is 400...so assuming you have a well stocked workshop you should come out even.
