Usually a monkey can install Ubuntu sometimes there are compatibility issues, like with broadcom wifi cards. But usually if not always these can be fixed by either having another computer or just doing your research before hand.
Did you know that issue is almost entirely fixed? Broadcom released drivers late last year.
http://www.desktoplinux.com/news/NS2486458776.htmlEntirely fixed, actually. Ubuntu includes the proprietary drivers necessary to make any Broadcom wifi card work, and they have for a couple years now. It should just be a matter of checking a box and saying "yes, I want to use proprietary drivers, please install them for me."

Then ubuntu / linux people really need to get crackin' and develop something that will do the same that directx does for games.
They already did. It's called OpenGL, and it's been around since the 90s.

I know I can install and use Ubuntu.. but my parents cannot and people who only know windows cannot. Making it a bit more.. win95'ish ... would do the trick. Its not about functionality but about interface.
I just now installed Windows 7, which is touted as the most user-friendly version of Windows yet. It was much, much harder to install than Debian. Debian in turn is harder to set up than Ubuntu. Linux Mint is easier to install and set up than Mac OS X.
And the Windows interface is an obfuscated mess. They don't put anything in places that make any sort of sense, and you have to dig so many layers deep to complete the most basic of tasks.
