Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
REACTOS.
Its amazing.
Check it out.
What do you think about it?
Its not Linux.
Its a OS programmed from scratch and it runs Windows Applications.
Its amazing.
Its only 59 MB small when installed.
Description according to ReactOS's website:
ReactOS® is a free, modern operating system based on the design of Windows® XP/2003. Written completely from scratch, it aims to follow the Windows-NT® architecture designed by Microsoft from the hardware level right through to the application level. This is not a Linux based system, and shares none of the unix architecture.

So basically, it's WINE with Linux removed? :?

Meh. I think I'll continue with Linux, VMWare and WINE.

Heehe well.

But what I find amazing is that it is not Linux.

Well when you pick it apart, neither is WINE. The bulk of the code just replicates what Windows does and that has nothing to do with Linux at all.
Sure, WINE runs on Linux but that doesn't make it Linux.

Yeah.
I guess its just the experience I like.
But like I said.
I still prefer Kubuntu.
I think its a great project though.

Have you actually installed ReactOS? I thought it wasn't yet stable enough to actually be usable.

I installed it a few years ago. It was still pretty windows 2000ish and didnt really do anything special that I needed. One thing it does have in common with linux is a repository.

Yeah.
I did install it on my Zotac Zbox. Its better to have something like that rather then Windows. Its really usable actually.

I have a copy of it that I have not actually installed. It's still basically in early beta and relies heavily on WINE. --It will be a few years before it is actually a viable OS.

And its goal is to be binary-compatible with an OS that is already outdated. It's a nice thought, but I don't see the point. Just use Unix if you don't like Windows.

And it could fit the need for those wanting a windows based system that have got hardware which does not meet the minimal spec for Vista/7. End of the end OS choice is down to personal choice.

Of limited value, since software which runs under WinXP will be found guilty of being 'legacy software' and left exposed on a hillside to die, or get 'upgraded' to become Vista/Win7 specific.
One way or another, Windows users will replace their OS version as the few remaining Windows-related choices are pulled away.

True XP's support runs out in April 2014. Tho I was thinking from it from my current computer interest hardware reconditioning as most of the computers I have are 2nd hand that have been fixed up & upgraded, I feel it more environmental friendly than buying new computers.

I use Linux for that, and it does it very well too.

That's who I mean - I give them Linux and they get on just fine.
