I've decided I'd like to buy an iOS based device, money's not an issue here. I'm just not sure which one! I gave Android a look, while it seems good I have a history of obsessively modifying phones so don't really want something that I could potentially break again. I also like the apps I've seen for iOS.

I was going to go for the iPhone 4 16GB but one thing that's somewhat holding me back is that it has no FM radio, something my current phone (Nokia N86 8MP) does have. I'm a media junkie (one of my obsessions) so I listen to a lot of broadcast media. However I do live in a city and have good 3G coverage so I could use the internet radio apps as a workaround. It just means I'd need to carry a portable radio when travelling cross country as I'd lose the 3G signal once I leave a city or town.

I'm also considering keeping my N86 and getting the iPod Touch instead, my only concern there is that it'll mean I'm carrying around two devices instead and have to be sure they're both charged. I've even thought about the iPad because its larger size would be more comfortable to use for web browsing and the like, it would just mean I'd have to carry it in a backpack or something.

I guess I'm just looking for suggestions. Seems if I want to go with iOS I'll have to sacrifice something. The Samsung Galaxy S II has everything I want hardware-wise, I'm just not comfortable with Android but that's my problem, not the OS itself.

I had an mp3+fm but since I got my iPhone® blessed by Steve Jobs I only use Apple™ products. And the radio apps are good btw.

oh, and there's always the option to download podcasts to iTunes and sync them to the iPod/iPhone.

I recall seeing on Amazon a bluetooth thing (dongle?, you plug earbuds/headphones into it...) that had a built in FM radio. With that and the iPhone you'd have FM and mp3's.

I have an iPhone and an iPad, and they're the most fun I've had in years.
The iPad's wifi only, but the iPhone acts as a hotspot for it, and only needs GSM to do it. They exhange pictures over their wifi, which helps when the phone is the right gadget to take pictures with and the pad is the right one to play with them. And once you're used to the pad's screen, the phone's looks a little small. Unless you're standing at a bus stop, or waiting for coffee.

Trouble is, now I need a Mac to make apps for them both with.

Just remember that the iPhone gets terrible battery life. The iPhone 3gs will last for about a day of standard use, if that. The iPhone 4(The one you would probably get) will last 1.5-2 days of normal use.

funny how this "terrible battery life" only applies to iPhones... wonder if it has to do with the fact that these are the first phones that people have been using them A LOT?

Thought I'd update. : )

I got the 16GB iPhone 4 in the end. So far so good and the battery life hasn't been too bad. I'll get a day out of it if I use it a lot but if not then I'll get about 2-2½ days. I did jailbreak it so I could run FullDrop (a Dropbox replacement), VLC and some console emulators. Might also give biteSMS a try. But I've no interest in changing the look of the OS or anything deep.

Been really enjoying Cut the Rope and Angry Birds too, haha!
