I know I do. The ones they use now are so much harder to understand. The audio portion doesn't help me either because they are like a sensory overload. Does anyone else have trouble with the captchas or is it just me?

Yes, deeply, and especially when this happens...

I also don't enjoy the sound alternative either. :B

This is a very condensed version but here's how captcha works. For years google has been scanning books for their book digitization project. The problem is that the scanners aren't perfect. So for the words that google can't understand, they created the captcha program. The captcha presents 2 words. The first one is a word google has verified, the second is one they don't know yet. When you type the set of two, you verify that you're a person because computers have a tough time distinguishing words that are obscured. Now comes what to do when you have words you can't type. Just solve the first one, and type whatever you choose for the second.(I like typing something like marshmallow or pokemon that are obviously wrong) If you have words with åççéñt marks that's almost certainly the unknown word. Hope this helps, and happy typing!

uhh... okay? But that seems irrelevant to my OP. O.o

and yeah, I know... it drives me nuts because I'm flipping through about ten or eleven of them before I can even find one I can do... and it takes up so much time. They should be making it so even those with autism understand them too.

Here's the condensed version. The majority of the time you will see a word you do recognize(at least that's been my experience on the sites I go to that use captcha) and one you don't. Feel free to put whatever you want as the second one, because the website doesn't know what it is yet. The easiest way to spot the unknown word is that they often use foreign accent marks. Hope that clears it up.

Ummm, captcha is just a verification technique and it's not Google's.
Many sites use a random string of plain ASCII letters and numbers.

I really hate them.... I think one of my ancestors must have been a spambot, because 30% of the time I can't even guess them. XD

Yes I do and sometimes I do not. I hear this is supposed to be hard so I don't think this is autism related. It's to prevent spam bots.

Yeah it takes me a while to figure out a captcha too. Usually multiple tries. By the time I get one figured out, I forgot what I was doing. There's got to be a way to make them more user friendly for people but not so much for bots.

Those ReCaptcha ones are usually easy to solve for humans, but the coloured ones with lines are very hard for me.
One forum I used regulary had captcha images like this: http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9 ... B8EpGA&t=1
And it took me nearly 10 minutes to solve those.. I just.. Can't see the text on that sort of captchas.

I also hate captchas. Either they are made for windows users and don't even appear on a rather exotic setup (Linux, strange browsers) or they are unreadable. The recaptchas are not that bad but blogger uses the worst c**p out there... Only thing when encountering them is hunt down the blogging person and LART.

with every fiber of my being. i failed 10+ just getting an account on minecraft, i couldn't help that i couldn't make out half the letters, i think it was luck that i finally got a damn account.

getting an account on steam was a nightmare, once i got the account though steam has been wonderful.

almost every file i download i see those ***** things. this is part of the reason i favor torrents.

adf.ly is a new annoying thing i've come across on minecraft mods.
