I was considering the $500 16GB one but then got to thinking on my 16GB Touch. It has 2gb music about 2gb in games (just the games I play NOT my whole collection mind you) and a movie is if I want one on there or not is 2GB for 1 at the least. So there's 6GB gone. So I was considering invest a few hundred more and get the 32GB or perhaps go all the way to 64GB. I want to use it as a tablet/Ipod. Ipod for music/movies and tablet for writing stuff and I want some planning apps and other such things. Plus Kindle & Nook reading apps. Netflix app. An entertainment/work device mainly. I have the money financially so 32GB or 64GB? I honestly don't think the 16 would be enough IMO.

Hi Zelda! Reading what you wrote I realized I have no true idea what a gigabyte is. But if more would be better for you and you have the money to spend, I guess I'd agree more is better!

You know for $500 you can get a really decent laptop. Just saying...

I have a 32gb ipad and I've never used more than 12gb in around 1.5 years. Most of that is taken up with games and ebooks (I have a separate ipod nano for music).

For me and I guess for most people I would say it's very difficult to use more than 16gb unless you want to store multiple movies on it. I usually stream movies via a netflix subscription, but you could probably store around 2-4 2Gb movies from the sounds of things on a 16Gb model. I'm not sure why anyone would need to carry round a bigger movie collection than that as after a movie is watched it can be deleted and replaced with another at the next sync (at least that's how I tend to do things).

If I could choose again I would get a 16gb model and again stick with an ipod nano for music (I actually bought an 8gb 6th gen nano from amazon for $134.95 and received $100 off by signing up for a 1-year audible audio book subscription at $14.95 per month -- i.e. $34.95 for the nano -- and audible is awesome if you like audio books).

My concern is I only have 20 apps on my Touch which is 16GB (others are on Itunes) and 20 apps is nearly 2GB. I am wanting to get word processers and use it for note taking in college which is why I thought maybe a 16GB might not be enough. Perhaps record the teachers lecture daily to go over them perhaps. Music I got up to 2GB in over 5 years so I don't listen to much music AT ALL!! ! No 1,000+ library for me more like a little over 300 songs. I know movies I can put on/off so that I don't see as being an issue. It's the college lectures/note taking that has me concerned that maybe I need to invest in a little bit bigger Ipad 2 than my Touch has. Thanks for the info. :-)

Also BTW I have a laptop which I'm typing on now but it's still a little heavy and doesn't fit in my messanger bag. Which is why I was considering an Ipad 2 or tablet device for writing notes in college. I feel taking notebooks/pens seems cumbersome and I love tech so I thought a tablet would be a good choice.

Zelda:

The current ipad and other similar tablets do NOT have the ability to let you take notes IN class. The touchscreen technology is not up to par to the task. This applies to both handwriting recognition and 'typing' notes.

I have an Ipad and I do use it for college... but not to take notes. I use it as an e-reader (I buy the class textbooks as e-books), as a mobile internet device, as a calendar/reminder, music player, movie player (netflix yay!) and to record the class lectures so I can review them later if I need to.

I also have a really cool app that lets me access my desktop at home from my ipad. It literally 'streams' a video of what's on my desktop's monitor and 'relays' my keyboard and finger/mouse commands to the desktop over the internet. This lets me be anywhere with a wireless internet connection and always be able to use WORD, video editing software, photoshop.. or any other software my desktop runs... from the Ipad.

Very handy for college.

But a note-taking device it is definitely NOT.

Now, as to which Ipad to buy... buy the cheapest one. The Ipad 2 that is coming out would be the best choice since it has dual cameras. Get the wireless only, least expensive one.

Why? Because you dont need more GB than what the basic Ipad comes with. The applet I run to access my desktop will LITERALLY give your Ipad the same hard disk space you have in your home computer. Any pictures, video or music you may take daily with the ipad can be downloaded easily into your desktop through that app.

So yes.. My weenie Ipad 1 with 16gb is really a 2terabyte one :D

Everything on each iPad is the same except for the memory. So if you won't use the iPad for music and video, 16Gb is more than enough.

I would imagine thieves on campus would definitely target Ipads? These days nobody cares about laptops so there's a bit more security in buying a new laptop, especially if you have a tight budget.

Something to consider...
