I'm trying out a new android tablet and I'm wondering about a few things...

First and foremost, antivirus software: Coming from the world of windows, this seems like an obvious necessity, but Android isn't windows-based, it's Linux..

I've been to a few Android sites and there seems to be no real consensus on the matter. What do you guys think? Does the tablet need an antivirus app or not?

Next, I've been trying a few different web browsers, and so far, I like opera best. However, opera has a few problems, such as broken drop down menus at the top of this page. Does anybody have a recommendation for a good honeycomb tablet web browser?

Finally are there any apps that I simply can't live without (that I just don't know about yet  )?

Any suggestions for good, useful apps would be appreciated... :)

I run ClamAV on the machines that I run MTAs (Mail Transfer Agents) on - just to be sure that I don't unwittingly pass on Microsoft viruses inside emails. It also lets me be sure that files uploaded to me, to be served out by me, don't have MS viruses in them. So far as viruses for anything but MS software - I've never come in contact with any.

Hmm... That's interesting.

I'm sure there must be android malware floating about. But, I don't think I'm going to stress about it too much just yet. I don't do risky stuff like download dodgy, 3rd party apps or illegal/pirated material...

Hopefully I'll be fairly safe with established apps from the market and Amazon.

I did install the free version of Webroot Security for Android. Unless I hear some verifiable malware horror story from someone else, I think I'll call it good enough for now.

I am also new to Android. I'm actually using a Kindle Fire. I ran into problems with the dropdown menus on WP. They kind of work, but they are a pain. Every step of the process of choosing involves opening a new page!

I am just using the default, built in browser.
