I'm sure some of you have named your computers (especially if your using linux... it pretty much makes you), so what have you named your computer[s]?

My laptop is named 'ezbakeoven' due to how hot it gets. My desktop is named 'localhostess' because there are too many computers named 'localhost'.

Usually have to pick a theme because there tend to be at least 2 or 3 computers around me wherever I live. So I've been through:

  • fictional named computers
  • fictional spaceships
  • letters from the Greek alphabet
But there's always an exception: my primary workstation is called "Kenny." Every so often I find a way (generally irritating, amusing and/or just plain gruesome) to get him killed. I'm a bastard.

The server is 'gate' (historical reasons).
Other boxes are: bunty, winnie, calliope, ermintrude (deceased), backups, and lappy (er, the laptop).
Virtual machines tend to be dull - like virt1, virt2 etc. and come & go as required.

I named my flash drive Otto, I use my flash drive a lot because I have 4 computers and always exchanging data. The computers are named according to how they function or look. Media PC fast, Business Computer dependable and decent speed, Dinosaur windows 2000.

My favourite was when Dilbert had to name three computers - he came up with "Pointy Haired Idiot"

I iterate the number when I re-install the OS....
For a while I went with "Beast","Beast2" thru "Beast5"
Then I installed a blacklight into a new box and called it "Indigo", then "Indigo2", "Indigo3"
But my blacklight broke :(
So, Now I call it "NeoSys"
