Ren'Py Visual Novel
Wasn't sure if I should post this in here, in writing and art, or in games and video games, but thought the awesome people at WP might be able to help me.
I saw something on here about Katawa Shoujo, so I downloaded Ren'Py the other day. I'm not familar with Java or Python, but I have used QBasic and a little html since my teens. So then I downloaded the ALICE doll program, but didn't like it, so I deleted it. Downloaded Gimp to use as image editing software. Did some test runs of a Ren'Py game with a combination of the images the program already comes with and some My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ones I had, but it took me a little while to figure out how to use Gimp and how to get images to have transparent backgrounds but solid foreground.
Everything seems to be running okay, so far. Learning quickly, but I feel rather limited without very good art skills or resources. I was wondering if there are any good tools or free online resources I can use for images and other data or materials that would be useful for game programming? I'm probably going to make a traditional, anime-style, boy pursues girl visual novel, but not sure yet. I could just make an adventure game with ponies, but not my tastes
Also, any helpful tips or tricks? Thanks.
