IT query here......In lab/office, I have Xara Xtreme on my computer as do others. But it seems XX is not compatible with our newer PCs (OS Windows 7). (Because it's a research group we got the software free). Anyway, I might be interested in another drawing programme software with free download. And, that does not take too much time for familiarity with the software - I don't read manuals.

Have you tried Corel Drawing? Is this relatively easy to use? Zoner? Are there opinions? Do you have experience with drawing programmes?

I like Paint Shop Pro, which is now owned by Corel, but I haven't used the newer Corel versions, still have the Jasc verion 7 (I think it's 7.) I love it, even though I have to use a slightly broken one under Wine on Linux. I don't think I've ever actually used a Corel product, but have heard good things about them. Do they have a demo version you can try?

I've used Rhino3D in the past. It's now at Rhino4 incarnations. Here's the site.

You should probably pay the price and order Adobe Illustrator.

Why doesn't Xara work on Windows 7? Have you tried XP compatibility mode? In a worst case, you could download Xara for Linux (free) and run it in a VMWare session. But you'd still have to have VMWare :) The current commercial version of Xara Xtreme for Windows is now called Photo & Graphic Designer.

I used this on a Mac at the office, years ago, and I loved it. The version I used included vector drawing and was so versatile - and that was back in the late 1980s! It's still probably the most sophisticated and user friendly graphics software I've ever used.

Thanks for this - Our Xara does work but some features were not & Xara always prompted for a registration number, which I enter each time. I'll try out XP compatibility mode.

Thanks SpiritBlooms - Adobe Illustrator might be an option. I use a lot of overlays with templates. And, I checked out Rhino4 too.
