Ok guys, here is a challenge. what is the oldest pc you had or saw windows xp
run on I installed it on a 300mhz compaq 256 ram 40gig hdd (Yes!! you heard right)
compaq 5020. Oh boy wasn't it slow as molases! even with the 256 ram installed!

post yours.

lol that is slow. I installed xp on my sisters computer:


hewlett packard
450mhz p3
128mb ram
rage 128 video card
40 gig hdd 5200rpm

it was really slow with 128mb of ram because it was swapping the ram contents to the hdd all the time even to just run IE or play music.
i tried to play a game on it and it got like 9 fps.

i was actually supprised that it even ran xp.

It was realy slow ...

My mate run it on an old IBM laptop. was something like 233mhz processor, 128mb ram, svga grahpics, 8GB HDD, took about 8-10 mins to start up lmao.

Oh you must have had the same laptop, something around those specs

I've shoe-horned it on a couple of older systems...I think the slowest was a 233 laptop?...the biggest hang-up can be finding drivers for some of the older components that will work with xp ...

lol ran like a turtle. but hey, it worked! used it as a web server for testing things. Would still work if I ever get around to replacing the on/off button....

Piece of junk. Pretty much unusable. I got sick of waiting for it to respond after I clicked on some thing. It took about five minutes to open My Computer after I clicked on it.

the oldest I have tried to run windows xp on is a Packard Bell (shudder) with a 500MHz Intel Celeron (reported as 501MHz by windows, 128MB RAM, and a newly installed 74GB hard drive, with successful results

I do have a 225MHz Cyrix 6x86 MII machine with 92MB RAM and 2GB hard disk which I do not see the point in even attempting to run Windows XP on due to it's age (well the motherboard anyway)

I tryed it on a 120Mhz Cyrix with 32mb of Edo ram.

nope, wouldn't have thought so, that is why I wasn't even going to attempt it on a 225MHz with 92MB RAM (and yes it is EDO, even though the same board can also accept PC100)

That would be impossible to run since a PC that old doesn't have enough memory plus even virtual memory for hdd for swapping procedure when all the RAM is used? I think XPs mininum screen resolution is 800 x 600.

I made an old computer with old motherboard, had a socket370 Intel P3 733mhz processor, 40 gig 7200 RPM HDD, 256mb pc100 ram and some old S2 PCI graphics card and it run it pretty well.

Of course that computer would run it well. I almost consider that a modern PC.

There are requirements for a computer to actually run XP, which includes memory, video, sound, and other things.

A computer needs to be adequate to be able to run or else it may not work, or damage your computer completely.
