Who's getting it or what do you think it's gonna be like?

From what I hear, it's not a big revision of XP. In fact, many IT managers are talking about leaving it to home users to 'de-bug'. Seems a lot of them are tired of these 'forced migrations' where every computer is upgraded, then has to get each service pack that comes down the pike. Since it has no given business improvements the hoopla will br for home users.

I probably won't be getting it in the near future.

I've heard that it has some rather severe and draconian digital rights management components in it that can't be disabled or bypassed either!

The company I work for definitely isn't getting it.

If my home computer were a PC, I'd be all over it, especially if I could put it onto a different partition/disc (can you do that with PC's?)

I'm not able to name any system where it's not possible. The question is how much Windows will cooperate.

i am. i get it as a free upgrade because i get my dell comp this christmas and they didn't want to scare customers who know a new os is coming out soon so people would still buy comps for xmas. I might partition my hd for it though and leave xp (if it's possible, is it possible?).

I have FreeBSD and Opera 9 for a browser.

I'm completely unaffected.

A pig as far as resorces are concerned. From what I've heard, you need a minimum of 1 GB Ram, and 128 MB VRAM for it to work properly. Also if you want the new Aero Desktop, I've read that the VRAM must be doubled to at least 256. --Count me out on this one, even though my new Computer has barely enough to make ot work w/o the Aero desktop. I like the basic Windows UI better, and I understand that it's not available with Vista.

First he cut off MS-DOS gaming support for all of us people out there how like DOS games. Then he starts cutting off Windows Media Player
features for everybody that loves music because he states that it promotes piracy. I maybe copy music onto my computer and maybe burn a
copy of one of my CDs to give to a friend but come on. I and several other of my friends pay for our music cds. Bill Gates and Paul Allen also
ripped all the features windows has off of Apple Computers Operating System.

It's basically only worth getting Vista if you have a top-end system, otherwise it's just not worth it.

DirectX 10 will be available on Vista only (I think), and later versions are only meant to be available through Vista.

AV-geek is right about the DRM, and it is the main reason I will not touch Vista.

Lou over at Microsoft gave me a copy of Vista Ultimate build 6000 (final). It sucks, i installed it on my AMD X2 (which is now sold via eBay) and the only decent thing was Media Center. My advice, use Mac OS X, i have a legal Leopard beta through Work (sorry, can't release pix, apple nda) and it's a LOT better than Vista.

I think the main thing everyone here needs to accept is that Vista will be the new OS for the future. Even though it's bundled with DRM nonsense, requires insane resources to run, etc. everyone an anyone will eventually own it. They will be selling it on OEM PC's all over, there's simply no way to actually not get a copy with time.

As for the requirements being strict? If it requires more impressive hardware to run then Dell, HP, etc. will need to upgrade their stuff and give a better PC for a lower price, a win-win there :-Z~

PS To expensive to merely buy the retail disc, better to buy a new OEM PC.

Or, you could do what I do, and run Mac OS X :D
