If Microsoft gave away Windows 2000s source code what would you do with it?
Windows 2000 is my favourite Windows ever. I would update it for modern day use.
What would you do?

That's why they won't give it away. --Besides, if they gave the SC away for it, then it's quite concievable that it can be built upon to emulate Win7 or possibly Win8, minus the bloated crap.

They're practically giving away Windows 8 now. I've been using it on my computer and it seems rock solid so far. But you know, I forgot to look and see if I can keep it if I have to pay for it in the future.

Its a shame there isnt some community project keeping Windows 2000 alive.
It might be just me being a 90s kid, BUT I love the look of Windows 2000 and how it works along with its sound effects.

Ahhh... so now the Malware coders have something to test their code on.

You could always run Win2K in a virtual machine. I've got Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Linux, and Haiku (a clone of BeOS) installed in either vmware player or virtual box. I think I will try Win2K next.

Yeah I will do that one of the days and post guides on how to get new age things working on this awesome OS.

Yeah, but that would be illegal and I could only use it. I would like to get it going for everyone else too.

Haha yeah. it would be pretty awesome to de compile 60 million lines of code.

Interesting although I wouldn't download it. I wonder how long it took that uploader to decompile all that code?

That code was leaked, not decompiled. You cannot decompile something like Windows and get back the original source code. That's impossible.

I recently installed Win2000 to test something. It was a world class OS when it was new, but it was immediately clear to me that it's dead now. Why not XP or Win7, which are direct descendants? The Win2000 code lives on in them.

Dont get me wrong.. I like XP, but some how its not the same as 2000. Although I do like Windows 7 but at the end of the day it still has bits of that horrible OS called vista (<--- Excuse my language) still cursing it.
