What are some good apps for the iPhone?
Hey guys,
I got an iPhone again after not having one for a while. When I did have mine all I really utilized on it was instagram, Facebook (which I have since deleted), and a couple of games.
What are some good apps that I should download? I've already downloaded iTunes u because I think it's cool that you can take courses via that (especially since I'm not in University anymore and I think it's important to always exercise your brain power).
Thanks guys!
kindle app (and several out of copyright book are free for kindle)
Some games such as angry birds, and where's my water.
YouVersion (a app that keeps a copy of the Bible downloaded if you want)
Since you are into medicine - Epocrates (it is a pharmaceutical app where you can look up drugs/perscibing info/ adverse event info/ interactions/ and how the drug is broken down in the body)
Flash light
QR reader
corkulus (how i organize my life)

Then why bother posting at all?
The Kindle app is definitely up there - I also highly recommend Dubble, Awaken, and Flashlight

The following are applications that are easy recommendations for most anyone. Asterisked apps I particularly like.
*GoodPlayer - Can play videos of many different file formats.
*Kindle/*Play Books - Access to your Amazon Kindle or Google ebooks. I wouldn't use Apple iBooks as its a closed system accessible only on iOS.
*Jasmine/Youtube - For Youtube. Better than stock app in versions up to iOS 5.
*Viber/Heytell - VoIP and in the case of the former, text messages over data.
iDownloader - File download manager with pause/resume support.
*Flipboard - App to view web content from numerous sources in unified magazine format ie. RSS feed, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram, Flickr, etc.
I also like the below applications, but your mileage may vary depending on whether you would use these services or not.
*Spotify - Subscription based music on demand service, can completely replace your music collection and free space on your device, much cheaper than buying music.
Last.fm - Music recommendation and social profile service.
Shuffler.fm/Hype Machine - Free streaming music from music blogs.
Songkick - Event recommendations for live music.
Soundcloud - Can identify music through the microphone.
*Colloquy - IRC client.
Shift Worker - Keeps track of your roster if you're a shift worker.
*AlienBlue - Best way to view Reddit.com
The below are jailbreak applications only and available on Cydia.
*Activator - Assign functions to screen gestures and button presses. For example I assign a flashlight toggle to triple clicking the home button.
*Adblocker - Blocks ads in Safari and other apps
Airblue Sharing - Allows filesharing over Bluetooth with other Bluetooth devices
AndroidLock XT - Lock phone by drawing over a 3x3 grid
AssistantLove - Use Siri to control Spotify
*GridTab - Tabs in Safari are viewed in a grid on one screen rather than cards over multiple screens.
*iFile - Explore and manage filesystem and host a local webserver that other devices can access the device's files from.
*Jukebox/Musicbox - Control music from notification centre.
*Landscape Lock Rotation - Lock to whatever orientation screen is currently in, even landscape.
*MultiflOw - View all running apps in thumbnails rather than the stock icons in the bottom tray. Much faster to switch apps and multitask.
*NCSettings/Sbsettings - Creates toggles in notification centre ie. WiFi, personal hotspot, brightness, orientation lock, private browsing, etc.
*Omnistat - Shows device info in notification centre such as WiFi IP, cell IP, battery %, ram usage, running processes.
*PwnTunes - Allows importing of music files into music app by drag and dropping files. Useful if you want to sync files from a computer without iTunes or from another person's library, or if you download files directly to the device.
*Springtomize 2 - Enormous amount of UI tweaks such as
Typophone - A pretty lockscreen. That's all this is really, but I like it.
*WeeTrackData - Shows data usage in notification centre weekly/monthly as you specify.
*3G Unrestrictor - Makes apps you specify to think 3G data is over WiFI; allows locked functions such as Facetime over 3G, Skype, downloading files over 20MB over App Store/iTunes.
If you want to download and listen to podcasts, don't use Apple's podcast app. It's very buggy and has a very confusing interface. Instead, get Podcruncher from the App Store. It's $1.99. You can either download or stream the podcasts.
For online radio, I use Live365. You do need to get a VIP account in order to use the app.
