Hey all. I could use some help.

I just built my first PC and enjoyed every minute of it but now that it is running I am running into a few walls.

I have an evga geforce gtx 670 dual monitor card. My main monitor cable is dvi-hdmi any way to get sound this way? The card is also 3D how do I get my 3D monitor to read this and play the movie in 3D?

Specs.

3D tv
evga geforce gtx 670 video card (dvi-hdmi)
GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3 AMD 970/SB950 AM3+ FX ATX Motherboard
Lite On IHES312-98 12X Blu-Ray Drive
Windows 8 OS

First time building and running a 3D pc.

The only way to get sound from HDMI is to keep it HDMI from beginning to end. DVI-to-HDMI won't work.

You playing an actual 3D movie?

It seems like a waste of a good computer to put Windows 8 on it.

Yes. It's a 3D blu-ray or avengers. the card, monitor and disk drive all say 3D.

I agree, windows 8 is not that fun. I am also running zoriln as well.

My computer is an MSI Ae2430 3D unit with W8. I've seen a few 3D movies using the supplied shutter glasses and the video software that was shipped with it. It's been a while since I've used the glasses because they're a little uncomfortable for wearing for over 90 minutes. The video software, BTW, was Roxio CinePlayer with 3D.

I'll look into it red. So far the only thing I have found is the company the disk drive is from stating "will not play blu-ray or 3D" unless you buy the program for it. The program costs more then the drive it self!

Check out some free apps out there... I wonder if VLC will do 3D movies?

What he said about the HDMI. :)

As for the 3D movie.. its odd that you can't run it. The DVD usually comes with its own software to play it or at least the codecs so existing players can show the film in 3D.

If you have the glasses didn't they come with software to play movies?

My glasses came with my 3D monitor. None came with the video card or the disk drive.

Well, it's true, DVI (and VGA) doesn't have sound, so that's that. :) HDMI is an end-to-end encryption protocol for multimedia and includes both video and sound.

Blu-Ray requires a decryption key, and that's $$$, so free software like VLC won't play it. You will probably have to purchase software that has the decryption key.

I made the mistake of getting a Blu-Ray drive for backups. Never did get a single disc to burn to completion and work. I finally gave up and cut my losses after burning a stack of the world's most expensive coasters. Blu-Ray was a total fail from day one.

^^^ Yeah - I've heard the same, even from some great staff at my favorite computer store. They don't play movies well or at all (thank goodness for my PS3!) and are really only good for backing up lots of data.
