Is there any reason why the Gmail icon is used to represent "real email" on the profile settings page on WrongPlanet?

Is there any reason why it shouldn't?

There are plenty of people who don't use Gmail, so I think a more generic icon should be used.

"... COULD be used."

That said, now what suggestions do you have to offer?

Well, the first thing would be to find one.

Seeing as how it's your profile and you're likely to be in there very rarely, and that any real email address can be used (it doesn't have to be Gmail) - what difference does it make? :?
I see an icon with "M for Mail" on it, which happens to be used by Gmail. Meh.

That's true. "M for Mail" does make perfect sense.

I was just asking if there was a planned reason (seems like there isn't one), especially after the major shutdown Gmail just experianced. Didn't mean to offend, if I did; no harm, no foul. (I'm really bad at interpreting emotion in text-based communications)

 And there's part of the problem: if only Google had created some nifty little icon instead of using a very generic and broadly useful "M" for mail, it wouldn't have become associated with a company at all...

Don't worry, no offence given and none taken. Seems a fair exchange.
