I just need something in the $400-600 range that will allow me to do light office tasks, presentations, and of course games. What would you guys recommend as best in that price range? Thanks.

Everything that I've seen about this company seems promising. --The Clevo systems are essentially the same systems that are rebreanded and sold as Sager, which is a specialist notebook company. The only downside is that if you buy a preassembled system from them, you will most likely have to load your own operating system. --It's a good way to go if you want to avoid the hassle of Win8, though.

I think you might have missed the part in the last thread about not even having a cell phone. If I knew how to put together all of those components on that website or even knew what most of it meant I probably wouldn't be making this thread

Go back to the page, look at the categories menu on the top left, select laptops/notebooks, then select Clevo, and then select Clevo Complete series, they are already assembled, all you have to do is install the OS.

The cheapest Clevo Complete laptop is $639 so therefore out of the OP's price range. :D

They do have quite a few sub $600 laptops on Amazon. Some are dual core, some quad core. Some are 15", some 17". Just know that with a sub $600 computer it'll be hard to play games that require substantial graphics power like Far Cry, F.E.A.R., etc.

Yea this all depends n what games you want to play. You might be better off getting a cheaper laptop/tablet and a console for that budget

The page I linked to below for your convenience shows frame rates for many games based on the Nvidia GT 635M GPU in that laptop you're interested in.

GT 635M

BTW, If I was in the market for a laptop I'd probably consider the Lenovo you're interested in. Its pluses are the 17.3" screen, Windows 8 (yes, I'm not a basher. I like W8), 2.6Ghz I5, 6 GB RAM. Its minus is that 5400 rpm drive. A 7200 rpm drive seems to be more adequate for faster throughput as it has to catch up with all that info being streamed to and from it by the RAM chips, the GPU and the OS itself.

You say, "of course games" but games have the highest demands of any programs out there. Even some facebook games are getting crazy in their hardware requirements! (Simcity Social is pokey on anything but high-end stuff!)

Let us know what games you hope to play - it'll make a BIG difference. Simple facebook or web games don't need that much most of the time, where Call of Duty, etc need insane hardware!

This one is the same price as the other quoted but a step up in both processor and video chip. GT640M vs 635M. Ironically, the 640 even uses LESS power, extending your battery life a bit.

That's a great laptop that will play most games.

It Specs out decently, but I'm sure that it's not heavy duty as the business class notebooks that Lenovo makes.

If you're still shoppin around, I would suggest you stick with an Intel CPU like in the above computer, due to the fact that even though AMD machines will be less expensive, AMD CPU's tend to run hotter and use more battery power.

Funny that you mention this one because it's exactly the one I decided on before I read your post. It's a little more than I wanted to spend but I feel that it won't become obsolete within a couple of years.

Thanks to all of you for your advice, it all helped me decide.

GT650M video - Even better!!

You did good.

Unfortunately, gaming on laptops is an expensive pain in the rear!

Well I've been playing WOW at 12 FPS out in the woods and 4 FPS in raids for the last couple of years. I decided to treat myself  I learned a little bit about computers along the way too. This thing has an extra hard drive bay for the 256GB SSD I have my eye on.
