So my friend wouldn't mind building rather gthan prebuilts, but he doesn't know how, and in fact neither do I really understand in the case of laptops.

I know they're "harder" but it is possible, right?

Please inform me on buying casings, instructions,moBo,power supply, charger, etc.

I know about CPU/GPU/RAM, like power stuff, but I'd be clueless on how to BUILD a LAPTOP.

Btw, his budget's like 1k, but it's not about exactly WHAT parts would be efficient, I know enough about that, I just don't really know how a custom laptop build would be.

Thanks a lot.

Unless you happen to have the skills to design custom PCBs and create your own case, you're pretty much out of luck. There are no standard form factors for laptops - so you're either designing a really clunky case (that you have to build yourself) to fit a desktop board, or you're creating your own board(s), and a case to go with it.

While you can--in theory--make your own laptop (I know for a fact that quite a few people have done so just to prove that it's possible), making a laptop that's actually portable (as opposed to merely mobile) is extremely difficult and also more expensive than simply buying one. You can swap the CPU and install more RAM in a prebuilt laptop, but the former is still very difficult, and the latter won't really make a difference unless you already have a good CPU and a good GPU.

Do a Google Search on " Barebones Clevo Notebook " , or RJ Tech Computers.

Actually, you can find barebones laptop kits. Unfortunately three are only 3 laptop manufacturers in the world: Asus, Acer (yech!), and Foxconn.
