I mean modification that would give you increased IQ, to get math painting or music abilities.
Of course my question is purely theoretical, because human gene therapy is not so advanced yet.

But i would like to increase my math skills. i'm good in humanities especially history :D
But my math skills are tragically poor :( , i always envy this one who are gifted in math and abstract thinking.
So if gene therapy would be advanced enough i would eager to use it level the playing field:-)

Genetic modification is cool and I would have no problems using it to make me even more superior.

I would be too afraid of unintended side effects.
Genetics is still in it's embryonic stage. Mankind is far from knowing enough about the foundations of life. Things could go horribly wrong.

This reminds me of something from the old movie classic "Forbidden Planet". There was a device created by an advanced but extinct alien race that could boost someone's intelligence and increase their IQ by a large factor. I'd definitely go for it. In the movie though there were side effects... the persons subconscious was able to manipulate objects by telekinesis and when they were asleep and dreaming they caused havoc in the real world... hence why the alien race had become extinct, they had destroyed themselves.

If some sort of IQ boost was available by genetic modification, I'd go for that too provided there were no or limited side effects. Those extra IQ points might just make all the difference towards a project I've been pondering for many years.

That was a very good movie. The Machine put the Id on steroids.

If this was widely available, average in all those areas would be redefined... So someone with an IQ of 120 would probably have an IQ of <100 if dropped in a society with IQ improvement available... I would do it then, because I'd need to to keep up. If it was only available to a select few or only me, I also likely would. I'd feel really guilty though.

So long as there were no negative side effects, I'd be all over this.

I wouldn't do it, but for other people, I don't see why not. Not much different from cosmetic surgery.
