:D Another new tool for quantum physics. :D

Edit: I know it is probably not very exciting to most people, but it got my adrenaline pumping.

Yea, no worries, man. You're among like minds.

That prospect does get the blood stirring, doesn't it?

The last 10-15 years in the physics world has kept me on edge. It is amazing what we have learned even in the 3 years between my BS and my graduate classes. We just keep learning more and more at an accelerating rate. And even more exciting to me are the things that we discover that we can prove that we don't know. The fact that matter as we know it only makes up 4% of the universe just is the coolest thing.

They're observing a Bose-Einstein gas, I take it? They've already made similar observations with liquid helium, which is a Bose-Einstein liquid. Liquid helium is also a Bose-Einstein condensate but it's a liquid instead of a gas and it has interesting properties as a superfluid:

Bose-Einstein condensate is a near zero temperature gas of atoms, baryons, bosons, leptons, or quarks, etc. The energy from a single photon can collapse it. This new method allows for a basically infinite period of observation. We couldn't get more than a quick glimpse before. It opens up whole new ways of studying fundamental particles.

Way cool. BTW taking the picture, per se does not destabilize the condensate. In order to take a picture the condensate must be hot enough to emit photons and this will in and of itself cause the condensate to be unstable.
