Can Android devices see Windows devices on a network and vice-versa?

My old Windows Vista computer can see my wife's Windows 8.1 computer on my wireless router and I can transfer files between them via a shared folder on one of the computers. The Android tablet uses the same router, so is it possible to transfer files to/from the Android tablet too via the network?

At first glance it doesn't seem possible as the Android device doesn't appear in Windows network list. Thoughts?

Yes, there is an app for it. It is called Wifi File Transfer and you will find it in Google Play.
