God forbid, but hopefully you won't need an amp or external sound card.
As far as I know, there's the one way in Windows to adjust the volume, and that is with the speaker icon in the corner. Have you double clicked on it to show up the more advanced sound/volume preferences? Check control panel and also look for sound or volume adjustment, too. Maybe you have installed drivers for your audio and they are not adjusted up as well.

Not really, unless you use an external amplifier. Some media player programs like VLC allow you to "amplify" the volume of whatever it is you're playing back, but they usually just end up distorting the sound, unless what you're playing back is a really really quiet source that doesn't approach 0dbfs in the first place.

If your headset's not going loud enough for you to hear, it probably means it's time for a new one. Either that, or you might want to get your hearing checked. I don't want to sound rude, but people who need to crank up their headphones really loud often do so because they've suffered some kind of hearing damage. ;)

Btw, how is your headset connected? Is it USB, or does it just use the normal headphone and microphone jacks?

The cheapest option is powered external speakers. If you want to use it with headphones, an external pair with a headphone jack can be found quite inexpensively.

Anything to increase volume 'over maximum' will result in clipping distortion. That being said, if you can isolate the audio track, and or download the YouTube media file into a standalone media player that supports VST Plugins, you can use an Audio Compressor plugin and a perhaps a Parametric EQ, like the perfectly adequate and quite free Paris EQ plugin, you can alternately boost the signal and set the Compressor plugin to brickwall limit the signal a 0dba to prevent clipping distortion.

That means you can plug them into an external amplifier! :D The onboard headphone amplifiers vary widely from computer to computer, with some having loud output, some having quiet output, some having clean output, and some having really staticky output. Unusually, my laptop seems to have a headphone amp with a built-in compressor, resulting in loud output with really punchy bass, at the expense of some clarity. When I listen to music on here, it sounds like it's coming from an FM radio station. :P

Still though, what I said is quite possible. --Also, bear in mind that there could be an impedance mismatch between your computer's output, and the headphones. --The culprit here is usually the headphones.

AKG K240 headphones were known for having an intentional inpedance mismatch that was quite intentional to have a max output in the range of 90db or so to facilitate amplification devices to be fully saturated at @ 85db or so for monitoring of program material during production and post production of audio content.

I do not know if I ever buy this amp, I really like to listen to music, but recently I read that too loud listening to music can damage hearing, moreover, does that not surprise me too much.

BTW what do you think about Hama "HS-320" headset, did anybody use it except me, and if so what do you think about it?

You need a knob that goes to 11.

You really need new speakers but if you are running on Windows 7 or later, you can try this:
Goto Speakers Properties
In the Enhancements tab, enable Loudness Equalization.

As Nigel Tufnel said, "It's one louder."

Whoa, I just realized you made that reference on your 11th post! XD Was it intentional?

Also, I actually have an album in my library that scores DR0; Merzbow's Venereology. Amazing noise album, and possibly one of the loudest things ever recorded to a CD.
