Forcing desktop composition on Win7's classic theme

I hate Windows 7's Aero theme, and I use classic whenever possible, but I've noticed that I can't enable desktop compositing when I'm using the classic theme, so as a result I'm getting choppy rendering on Foobar2000's visualizers. This irritates the crap out of me, because I remember it looked just fine on XP, which had no real form of desktop composition AFAIK.

Anyway, has anyone ever managed to hack together a solution to enabling desktop composition with the classic theme on Win7? I'd be eternally grateful if someone knew a solution to this problem.
