I know that by this issue could erupt little war;-)
But I would like to know your opinions, I'm from November last year, the lucky owner of the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE, I bought it because it was a discount and I ended contract, I extended it for another two years.

I know that there are newer models of galaxy, but only on S3 I could afford, I'm more than happy especially compared to my previous smartphone Sony Xperja J, which is the most sh***y phone I had was worse even than the Nokia 5230 (mainly because touch screen with was not working) with Symbian that I had before.

But I wanted to know your opinions on the Samsung Galaxy and iPhone from Apple, which phone do you think is better?

The Samsung Galaxy, however I like my phone better than both and it is a Kyocera Hydro Life:

It can withstand submersion in water for up to 30 minutes...I can't take it swimming with me, but its not destroyed if it gets wet. Also apparently has military grade shock resistance and a durable screen it is meant not to be broken very easily so it can survive being dropped on a hard surface which I cannot say for the Iphone or Samsung Galaxy, I have seen what happens to those.

I have a Motorola Moto G. It's unlocked, water resistant like that Kyocera, you can get the dual-SIM model (Chinese variant) if you use more than 1 carrier, it lasts 24 hours with normal use, the battery covers are the cases; mine looks brand new even though I dropped it on the edge over & over! It should be officially getting Android 5.X sooner than most devices (4.4 isn't slow), it has decent audio quality and it's CHEAP. Mine cost under 200usd with a screen cover & "bumper" battery door, the latter of which I use now. I can throw it on on tables and car floors 24/7 without worrying and it's amply thin to fit in any pocket. The toughness may not be built in but that means color choices! I have a good Symbian Nokia with a QWERTY I can go back to for work needs and the Moto has Nokia's amazing Android launcher installed which is the fastest way I ever found to use Android - nixing the widgets and staying ahead of my frenzied clicking. I've considered the nee Galaxy Note Edge but it's 5 times the price and only marginally more useful. Even as a mobile developer and smartphone critic extrordinare, I haven't found any fault but lack of LTE with my cheapo little phone, and I can always just buy that version when TMobile stops ripping everyone off using data rates.

I got a case for mine over the internet and it didn't fit :(, so I think I will just get like a vinyl covering or whatever maybe even something I could cut to the right shape with holes for all the plug ins and what not in the right places...since its already durable without a case. But yeah also that seemed to be the best phone for the plan I got that was within my budget, now pre-paid phones are not limited to the almost smart phones which is great.

Samsung S3 isn't the best Android phone on the market, though Samsung is flagship Android OEM.
If you buy an Android phone that isn't Samsung phone, then you aren't real Android fan.

S3 Pros:

Removable Battery
SD Memory card slot
Runs Samsung apps by default over Google's apps.
Dirt cheap now
Plastic material used, so it is harder to ding
Can run stock Android if you install it properly
Can pirate and side install any app and paid DLC, thanks to Android being open source.

S3 Con:

Samsung purposely stopped updating S3 after a year and half on the market, even though the phone can run higher version of stock Android than Samsung (they did this to force everyone to upgrade to S4. They do this with every phone)

TouchWiz making the OS worse than the competitors.
Samsung Apps take up a lot of room and can't be deleted.
Google's Apps aren't on by default
less apps available than new Android phones.
Samsung's part replacements are more expensive than Apple
Lower battery life than current iPhone 5c
Can't run Android 4.4 or higher
Runs 32bit Android.

S5 and S6 are currently having a promotion in the U.S. where you can get a free Samsung tablet for buying one!
You should be able to get the basic S5 model for $49 if not free with a contract now.

iPhone 5c Pros:
Can be gotten for free on contract (my cousin's was free)
iOS is optimized to run on iPhones
iOS is generally more stable and faster than Android (8.3 has less issues than Android 5.1 according to reviewers).
iOS is full 64bit
It is still getting iOS updates and should be able to update to iOS9 when it launches this fall.
It has better hardware than S3
It has a better camera than S3
It comes in more colors than most Android phones.

The iWork suite: Pages (reads and writes .DOCX and other formats), Keynote (reads and writes .PPTX and other formats), Numbers (reads and writes .XLSX and other formats). They sync with an iCloud account and are constantly updated to iCloud so you can view, download and edit them on iCloud.com.
They also sync with their OS X versions as well and vice versa.

Photos app syncs all your photos with iCloud and OS X apps and vice versa.
iMovie iOS is a decent mobile movie editor
Contacts also sync with iCloud and OS X
Maps allow you to send and receive from OS X
Notes, Reminders, iBooks, Podcasts, Music, Videos all sync with iTunes.
Newsstand is the built in app for buying and viewing digital magazines and newspapers
iTunes Store lets you buy from iTunes directly to your iPhone (iTunes is still the biggest store for digital music)
Find My Friends and Find My Phone can be synced with OS X, iCloud, and your friends iOS device.
 Watch is compatible with 5c as well.
FaceTime allows for free video messaging between any people using iOS and OS X devices with the current software (or have the apps installed).
iMessage allows for free MMS/IM to anyone running the current iOS and OS X software (or have the apps installed)
Apple pushes updates to you directly instead of going through carriers and others like Android OEMs do.

Apple is still supporting iPhone 4 with new iOS updates (it launched with iOS 4 and now running iOS 8).

iTunes streaming service should be launching this summer and will be compatible with all iOS 8 devices.

iPhone 5c will have between 1 - 3 years of iOS updates from Apple.

Cons:
No installing pirating apps without jailbreaking the device.
No alternate App store
Apple is currently more restrictive with App developers (though Google will be up to speed soon)
iOS App store has too many priced apps (Android allows you to get everything for free avoiding having to pay for anything)... Yes that is one of the biggest grips of iOS.
You have to download Google's apps if you want them on your iPhone
5c has smaller screen than iPhone 6 and 6+
5c requires you to have an  Watch to get Apple Pay
5c has no NFC
5c has older processors
Google doesn't have access to your phone
iPhones are more desired by thieves than Androids
iPhones have higher resell value than Androids (As does all Apple Products)
Apple actually enforces copyright laws on the App store...
Lack of viruses and malware.

If you love getting all your software for free, including pirated software and hating paid software then Android is for you (Yes Android users are notorious for pirating everything and refusing to pay developers for their apps, the stats don't lie)
Though beware Android is set to pass Windows by in terms viruses and malware...
You will need an Anti Virus software if you get an Android phone (you can download an virus poising as an App in the Google Play Store until the new developer restrictions are fully in place).

If you want fully optimized OS and security than iOS is the way to go, though you do give up a good deal of customizations that Stock Android offers (though you'd have to install Stock Android yourself if you get an Android phone). Also Apple has strict control of their App store, though you don't have to worry about viruses poising as Apps.

Or....

You can buy a new Lumia Windows phone from Microsoft from $49 and up that runs the current Window 8 Mobile and can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile this July!
The Lumia phones go toe to toe with the current iPhones and Android phones in specs.

Microsoft still uses the Nokia brand for their phones currently and are taking a huge loss selling them.

The big problem with windows phone is that app selection is utter s**t.

I have an S3 and don't plan to upgrade anytime soon. I mostly use it for streaming audio/music and use google maps/my tracks to record mileage when I'm trike riding. It works great for that.

I also have a Gal-Tab S has good specs and a BEAUTIFUL screen. I mostly use it for games/comics and as a reader. I have lotsa electronic textbooks and journal articles to read for school. Also, the new MS Office apps let me do school work without the need to carry a laptop/netbook.

The best phone ever created was the N900. I use mine to run Linux, and do mobile pentesting. It's literally a computer in your pocket. But, if you want to keep it all hip and modern I own this too ... https://www.pwnieexpress.com/product/pwn-phone2014/ ... there's no phone on this planet that can do what my Nexus does.

If you love apps and games and all this crazy social stuff then either really. I've never been into that. But, Apple has a better developer platform, and its more strict than Google's. They have strict developer guidelines too, and their iOS platform is solid. This makes the Apple a better choice for those that are app crazy. For the general user, this means nothing.

The phone I use to make and recieve calls is my trusty old ...

Image

The 8310. I still love it now, and I've had it years. It does two things: 1) Makes and recieves calls 2) Makes and receives texts. It's all I need it for ... and it still looks sexy :D

it all really comes down to OS and cost. I have an Ipad running IOS 8.x and a Oneplus One running cyanogenmod 12.1 (android 5.1.1) Both have there pros and cons. One big factor the OPO has far better specs than iphone 6 at half the price, in fact a year after release it is still comparable to the latest Android flagship phones.

As for the comment by xenocity

Who cares about being a fanboy. I just want the best possible OS and specs.

My N9 64gb wasn't exactly an N900 but it had the same tricks. I've already re-imaged the thing! Wonderful distros, I can't wait until Sailfish gets as big as CyanogenMod. Why pay for kernel bounce VMs? I had all that pwnpad stuff in chroot'ed Backtrack5 on my ASUS TF201 with the keyboard dock; I could packet sniff all day and pass USB devices directly into the Linux environment, plus use the Debian/Canonical CLIs directly from hovering windows above Android. Needless to say I melted the network parsers on that thing. Perhaps I'll just buy another; especially if I can get it with AWS band LTE...

I've heard there are a few phones (Droid and Windows) that make the iPhone look pathetic, but in the end, if you already have an iPhone, the question is if you want to give up all you're used to. Next-gen iPhones cleanly let you migrate all your stuff. Few apps become obsolete. Go to a new platform and you might lose several apps you value...or at least have to buy them all over again.

That's not entirely true...

Android OEMs are stuck in a spec war that has lead to many of them being sold at a tremendous loss.
I can't think of a Windows phone that matches them...
Also Android is horribly unoptimized, especially the OEM modified versions (they need more power to run it).

Apple designs it's own chips and other hardware components in tandem with iOS, thus doesn't need to engage in the spec wars.

iPhone 6 and 6+ benchmarks are better than Windows Phones and nearly every Android phones on the market, with "weaker" specs.

Here are some charts to show it off.

Granted this is from the end of 2014 before Galaxy S6 launched.

I personally prefer android phones prefer the bigger screen . My iphone 4 was really slow once it was updated to ios 7 Android on the other hand is perfect on my lg g3 . i had a moto g 4g lte before and think it would be better than getting a s3 but the camera on the moto g sucks and i think personally the screen is too small.

The experience with the iPhone is a lot better. Everything runs more smoothly and the UI has a superior design. Apps work more uniformly.

 Anyone who buys a device purely based on fandom approval, needs their head examined.

I'm someone who didn't jump on the smartphone bandwagon until the exceeded PDA + plus phone in usefulness.

I strongly recommend people get the device they actually need. Android is useful on many devices, you needn't get a Samsung.

Many people who get expensive devices, will never use all the capability, or could get something better value. Before you mention contracts, you pay for the phone through the contract, nothing is free.

As the police often say would you walk down the road with £400 in notes grasped between your hands, or pressed against your face?
