I currently have windows 7 and want nothing to do with windows 8, but Microsoft sent me a thing to sign up to upgrade to windows 10 for free and I don't know anything about it. I looked at the info page it gave and it looks like it might be a good OS, and mentioned more customizing features which it seems if anything the customization options have decreased since say Windows XP where it seemed you could change everything like the color of different menus, the fonts on all different things and it was seemingly endless....so if they are bringing that kind of thing back I might be interested, provided it also functions as well as or better than windows 7. If its just an updated version of Windows 8 or something then I wouldn't want it.

So has anyone heard of Windows 10 and have any opinions on it....figured some of you technology/computer buffs here might be much more in the know about this kind of thing. I also plan to do some of my own research to. And do you know if its possible to run it whilst keeping Windows 7 if I ended up not liking it?

Here's an example of a free Windows upgrade. -- I've been satisfied with using it for years now.

I assume you hate Windows 8/8.1 because of the tiles and lack of the traditional start menu... (this is really the source for all the hate).

Windows 10 uses a fully new gen start menu that uses the Metro Titles (Windows 8 Tiles) by default (Windows 8 Metro Title screen is supposedly to be in the final build as an option).

This built on the Window 8.1 start menu (YEAH WINDOWS 8.1 HAS START MENU HATERS!)

Windows 8.1 using Classic Shell (downloadable skin), gives you this start menu.

Though with that said Windows 10 has many new features, has a smaller foot print on you Hard Drive (even after upgrading, it will free up space), It is snappier than Windows 8.1 (which is much more snappier than Windows 7 by a decent margin).
Oh it has new browser running on a fork of Internet Explore's Trident Engine.
Have no fear Windows 10 also comes with a new version of Internet Explore, in order to keep businesses happy (they are heavily invested in IE).

If you are one of those folks who cannot let go of the traditional start menu (Windows 9x to Windows 7), then you will hate Windows 10 as much as Windows 8.1

Will see you joining the massive mob of angry users due to the lack of traditional start menu and UI?

assuming your current vista/7/8 is a verified (legal) one; the update will be free (if you take it in the first half-year orso)

I've disavowed Windows since having to deal with Vista as well as Win7 due to the fact that they made the OS more complicated that it really had to be. While Win7 was admittedly better than Vista, the resources that it used were higher than Vista. The Aero Desktop was a hog, and the fact that MS designed an OS under the assumption that the users were computer illiterate was perhaps a good idea, I hated the fact that the OS prompted me for permission every time I loaded an application. Why couldn't they simply gone the UNIX route for computer security via having a separate partition for the OS, and have a separate userland?

I wouldn't bother if I had 7 especially if you're not upgrading your comp unless it is giving you problems right now

I've been learning A+ cert stuff and the more I learn the more I hate Windows and Microsoft. There are so many things about 8/8.1 that are annoying, different, or entirely removed from previous versions. Change is a process but Microsoft is totally anti-consumer.

I'm still going to scope it out, my copy is reserved for July 29th apparently
