Yes. I was around when it was the new kid on the block. Everyone wondered if it would thrive, given the large number of personal computer applications that were already on the market based on the CPM operating system.

The Microsoft product, MS-DOS was introduced around 1981, I think.

It's the shell interface of Windows, and I believe that IBM's EComStation still has DOS underpinnings. The last MS OS that was based on DOS was Windows ME.

You should check out Lazy Game Reviews. He has quite a few videos on DOS stuff, not just games, but other interesting stuff like tech history. He seems to know a great deal about the subject and is one of the few who still uses DOS from time to time.

I remember using it to get my Win95 to work on my very first computer but my memory is blurry, I was just 12-13 at that time.

Note that DOS predates Microsoft. Microsoft's early operating system was MS-DOS, not DOS.

I remember DOS. The first few hours after buying a game was spent installing and making a boot disk for it. Good times.
Good luck and stay safe.

I used CP/M, the pre-cursor to DOS, in an assembly programming class in college. The lucky people got to use computers with 64k memory on them, but you didn't need it for any of the assignments.

Some how I managed to open the compiler into an editor and change the banner string. The instructor was not amused. Then later on I changed some file name to ORG.ASM and it still worked.

Those were not the good old days. They sucked. In my opinion Windows XP was the first Microsoft OS worth anything.

So do I. One of the early fractal generating programs, Fractint, is a classic which I will never throw away. The fractal images it is capable to draw, are modest at best, with only 256 colors, but I learned a whole lot about fractals with that program.

It's actually pronounced DOS, Not DOS like you're saying.
