I recently posted a thread about my main computer not getting the Windows 10 icon. My other two machines did, but the one I do most everything on (naturally) didn't.
Well, last night that changed. It had the icon.
Clicking the icon brought up the claim that the computer's CPU isn't compatible and it can't have Windows 10 installed.
Here's the thing-
All three of my machines have Intel Duo Core processors.
The laptop has a T7500 @2.20GHz (2 CPUs).
The small form factor machine has a E8400 @3.00GHz (2 CPUs), and the main machine, the tower, has an E8500 @3.16GHz (2 CPUs).
How can the E8400 be running Windows 10 fine (I upgraded that computer yesterday afternoon), but the E8500 NOT be compatible?
Does that make any sense at all?
If anyone knows why a seemingly newer, faster processor is being excluded, would you please explain it to me?
I used a Microsoft.com "troubleshooter" program, and it claimed the computer was missing an update from around last autumn. I checked. The first time it tried to download it, the update failed to install for some reason, but a later attempt was successful. The update IS on board.
None of this makes any sense.
I'm considering getting a new hard drive, using the restore disc to put Windows 7 on it, and starting all over again to see if the machine will be able to get Windows 10 a "second time around".
If anyone has any ideas...
