How do people get knowledge of OSDev?

How do you get knowledge about the hobby of OSDev in the area of computer hobbies? I understand you need to read and write low-level CPU assembly language and understand it's architecture, including the native language of computers (hex and binary) you need to learn C/C++ (I'm only coding bits of Python now), etc.. But where do I find this knowledge in cyberspace? Can anyone become an OSDever if they are willing to work hard to develop the knowledge.

I think it will be cool to say I have written an operating system from scratch. But, I'm still a newbie to coding. I also tried out Git.

Writing an OS is one of the most difficult programming tasks you could think of. I have no knowledge of it personally, but I'm sure there are books about it and stuff on the web, too, like http://wiki.osdev.org/Getting_Started

Can any programmer do it? IMO - no. Are you one of those few who can? The only way to find out is to try. Of course, this also depends on how "serious" your OS would be. A real-world OS would be beyond the ability of any one programmer to write, but if it's just want to play around and learn stuff you could certainly develop something that qualifies as an OS in a reasonable amount of time. I knew a guy in high school who did. Really smart guy and a brilliant coder. (He later went on to become a lawyer - go figure!)

I also knew a programmer who had worked at Microsoft and he quoted a Windows developer as saying something interesting: writing an OS is, for the most part, fairly straight-forward, but there are just these 3 or 4 problems that are really, really hard and if you're writing a proper OS you will eventually have to solve them. This might not apply to a "toy" OS. Of course, this statement came from a programmer that's probably in the top 0.001% of all programmers, so what's straight-forward to him and what's straight-forward to others may not be the same thing.
