Let alone a Windows Phone.

In the US where most people have "contract phones" and so are not as sensitive as they should be to the bottom line cost of an iPhone, the pervasiveness of the iPhone is such that anyone who chooses something else probably has a reason. This is not true in other countries; in Spain almost everyone has a Samsung.

If you aren't American you may not realize that the word iPhone has almost become a generic term for mobile phone. In TV dramas, characters are alnost always only seen using iPhones. Cast members on "news" programs such as Good Morning America exclusively use iPhones.

It is assumed that all celebrities use iPhones but unlike some other things (such as cars) most middle-class people also have them. I suppose the very poorest have to make do with cheap Androids from Boost Mobile or some such.

As for myself, I have an LG mobile (a G3) despite my being affluent enough to own an iPhone. Sometimes I wonder if this means there's something wrong with me.

Any other Americans in this situation?

Who would buy an android phone? Most people, it turns out. Android is the world's most popular operating system. And my $300 HTC One was not cheap. It also has a really nice camera for low light, and a machined aluminum body that's unbreakable.

Only a few million high end Android phones and tablets are sold world wide, mainly by Samsung.

You can literally run Android on a non smartphone, which most are phones are.

That's because Google is imposing strict controls and security on Android 5.x, including cracking down on developers and hackers.

I have an andriod phone...for one I don't do contract phones, and for the pay as you go I got...the smart phones they have are andriod. Not sure there are pay as you go options for I-phone, and I-phones are flimsy I'd be afraid of breaking it if I had one. But yeah even if I wanted an Iphone I couldn't afford it...certainly could not afford a contract plan but I don't want one anyways so works out alright for me. I don't see how there is 'something wrong with someone' if they don't have an iphone.

Android is customisable and accessable.
you can connect it to a computer as a flashdrive, without needing iTunes, you can install 3rd party apps without jailbreak/root, it communicates with both android and windows (where apple only communicates with apple).

There are good reasons to get an iphone, but the reasons to get an android are at least as good and plenty.

in my house and at work, i'm the only one with a non-apple device, and my device is the most practical in most situations

The whole bendgate has been debunked, as it was proven those behind the claims were purposely bending their iPhones purposely to prove a point.
They were caught using tools and other things to bend said iPhones.

My LG G3 is probably equivalent to a Galaxy S5. A G4 could probably challenge a Galaxy S6. Of course Samsung makes a couple of especially mind-blowing premium phones but the G3 can certainly hold its own against the equivalent Samsung.

Hell my old iPhone 4, should be able to run iOS9 which means it has been able to run 5 versions of iOS.
Most Android phones will be lucky to receive 3 significant updates let alone one new version of Android, before the OEM blocks updating.

Over 100 bucks is quite a lot for a phone to me I wouldn't spend that and I've already got an android tablet. And hell if it does get outdated I'll just have to deal with that when the time comes...but seems quite up to date and does what I need it to do without much hassle so for now it works great. In what way would it be outdated though? not run as fast....some apps wouldn't be compatible just wouldn't know quite what that means in terms of phones...

I do have to wonder though why you figure most of us here have the kind of money to buy a 200$ phone and keep up with a monthly contract plan? Not even sure they have samsung galaxy for MetroPCS pre-pay even.
