I think I installed one, does uninstalling the extension gets rid of the keylogger too?

I think so, though if it's spyware they might have found a way around it? I'm just guessing though so....

Ehh I scanned with Norton to detect spyware and it gave me no results. By the way I know they say norton is BS.

If the extention IS the keylogger, removing the extention will indeed remove the logger.

However, is the extention installed a keylogger, you need to remove it seperately, using a dedicated spyware-killer

Do a scan with Spybot Search and Destroy. It's better to be safe than sorry.

If it were my computer though, I'd just nuke the hard drive and reinstall Windows. Malware can often be extremely tricky to get rid of, and antimalware software tends to be slow in my experience.

I'd recommend malwarebytes. Norton gets rid of viruses, but malwarebytes gets rid of what are called PUPs - potentially unwanted programs. Adware, basically.

Why do you think you installed a keylogger?

I tend to agree with mr_bigmouth_502: if there is detectable malware in your system, it could easily have bootstrapped something elese, such as a rootkit and nothing short of a clean install is going to get you out. Even then, there are rootkits that install defenses in odd areas of protected memory that can survive most attempts to eradicate them and then reinstall the full suite of malware once you think you are working on a clean system again.

I would want to be very sure there really was a keylogger installed, before deciding what action to take,
And then I would want to be absolutely sure it was sandboxed in Chrome, or I would go with reformatting the HD and doing a clean install.

It was disguised as an extension for a website.

I just did that and it turns out there was nothing.

What I meant to ask was: how did you know that the extension was acting as a keylogger?
What unexpected behavior in your system or other evidence was there that this extension was a keylogger?
Or did you analyze the code and recognize what it was doing?

It didn't do what it was supposed to do and others warned me on said site afterwards.

Ah! You made me frightened. I thought Google Chrome had a keylogger installed into it and sends all the data to Google. I'm very sensitive when it comes to surveillance.
