I wonder if anyone here has ever gotten the original Diablo or its popular mod "The Hell" running under Arch Linux. I know people have done it before on other distros, but I've had trouble with it because of issues with 32-bit video card drivers and WINE. Aside from installing Windows in a virtual machine, what are some tricks I can try to get this game running playably? I have a feeling that by doing this, it would also solve my problems getting Steam to run.

I'd like to get StarCraft: Brood War running as well. I have run it under WINE before using some derivative of Ubuntu or Debian, but it's been a really long time.

Starcraft usuallly works fine with WINE. Perhaps you should try PlayOnLinux. It uses wrappers and you can choose earlier WINE engines and experiment to work out what works best. On the website, there are usually pre-existing wrappers for lots of games that will download and install everything you need automatically, usually created by people who already got them to run. Also, remember that you can also always use DOSBox for any old DOS games as well.

PlayOnLinux is a nice tool, but unfortunately it doesn't solve the issues I have with 32-bit graphics drivers. As for DosBox, I've been using it for years, but it's basically useless for Windows games since Win95/98 don't play nicely with its emulation. PCem is another option, though it requires a ridiculous amount of CPU.
