I've had a Oculus Rift DK2 for a couple of years now. Recently bought a CV1 and I'm loving it. What are your opinions of VR and how do you think it will progress?

I've tried a number of social apps. Spent about 3 hours yesterday sitting on a balcony in Paris with some friends drinking beer and it was really cool. Another app is Virtual Desktop. Watching a movies in my own private cinema is an amazing feeling...Watching The Conjuring 2 right now but I thought I'd pop in and post this :)

Got a leap motion too so Inside FSX (vr for Flight Simulator X) is amazing. Very immersive

How do you think VR will affect non-gaming, non-entertainment...?

There also an autism simulator :) Only last for a few minutes but it's interesting. I'm wondering if VR could be a good tool for autistic people. In the social apps, I have no social anxiety at all. I can talk to people no problem. Completely different from real life :)

Oh, I definitely think VR/AR has a future.
We still have to come up with some better uses for it, stuff we won't even know we can do with the tech yet.

VR/AR still doesn't have that "killer app" yet that secures it as a good productivity tool.
Immersive games and social apps are all well and good, but it's the tech equivalent of "organizing recipes" and "balancing your checkbook" everyone was using desktop computers for in the 80's.

But it was productivity software that helped businesses operate more efficiently that made the home computer revolution happen.

Once the devices get a little bit smaller. People will embrace it even more.
Not long, the units should be the size of a pair of safety shop glasses. It will get to that point, there is already enough investment into R&D to expect significant miniaturization in the coming decade.

One thing I would like to see improve is FOV. I might be picky, but anything less than full peripheral vision (180 degrees +) is unacceptable. But we need curved concave displays for that.

I think VR has finally gotten it's start. But it's just that, a start.
We all still have to learn what a good VR user interface is, the world hasn't been using VR for long enough to have figured that out yet.

But, I'm an indie Unity dev and GUI is my area of focus right now.
When I can afford it, I'll be getting a headset. Kinda waiting for gen 2's to start showing up, we all know they are coming.

I'm a little more interested in AR.

The "Meta 2" looks pretty interesting.... It's like the hololens, but not all self contained, it's just an AR display device.

Augmented reality has the potential, when combined with gesture input, to solve a lot of ergonomic pain problems for people, allowing us to work in much more comfortable and natural positions.

We'll see how things like "Windows holographic" evolve over the years.

And just wait until hollywood directors learn how to shoot a good VR movie, the sort of thing that will take the industry a little time to figure out, but when they do, they will be blowing people's minds. Forget movie theater mode. Imagine something like ID-4 or Titanic fully immersive. VR horror will have the risk of giving people PTSD, we may see some legislation about hyper-realistic VR content that has the potential to cause permanent psychosis.

Will there be people who spend too much time in VR and start hallucinating VR content when they are NOT wearing the devices?

Will AR, just provide advertisers with a whole NEW way to inundate us with their spam?
While we are in the bathroom, brushing our teeth?

VR opens up a brave new world for humanity.

It's going to change things as much as TV changed culture.

Let's see where we will be at by the end of the century with this, It will be strange.
