I am still waiting for my super new computer. In the meantime this one is driving me nuts as it does not have enough RAM. On a PC I can increase the size of the paging file to create more virual memory but do not know how to get to this on a MAC. Also the operating system is installed in german, even though I have changed the language options most things are still listed in german. Can anyone can help with some instructions of how to change memory options on MAC?

As a prospective Mac owner, I was wondering this myself.

It's adjusted automatically as needed.

but on my PC I can force it to have a higher minimum so it doesn't slow up in the middle of things all the time.
I tried downloading iFreeMem but it just closes and gives application error

You'll never notice the adjustment.

If you ran a program to free your memory then your computer would just take more time to load it right back into memory. Not sure what use those types of programs are for. I guess If a program did not give up it's memory when it closed, then it might help.

The memory you're freeing is probably just the cache that would get deleted anyway when another program needs it.

You could keep several GB of drive space free so that there would be space if it needed to use it. Most people do that already though. If you have a second hard drive that is not used much, you could set virtual memory up on that, so that it wouldn't affect the speed of your primary drive.
