Anyone find that, beyond the basics of communcation and friend updates, most of Facebook is useless? Especially all these new silly little features such as the "Like" option. What is the point? Do the Facebook team actually sit back in their chairs and think "right we need another revamp, what can we do? Oh I know let's give people the option to "like" things. Yes that is really original, useful and innovative..."

I get sick of people "like-ing" the occasional status I put up. Either construct a full human response to my status, or don't do anything. I receive a notification that I think may be something interesting, such as someone posting something to my wall, but no... all it is is someone "likes" my status. I don't really care.

I am thankful that I have been able to block all Facebook emails besides those informing me of friend requests, messages or wall-posts. I'd go out of my mind if I were to receive however many emails telling me such irrelevant things.

I love the fact my Facebook is bone-dry compared to all my friends. I use it to communicate, I upload occasional photos, I have made as much as I can of it private by either altering the settings or just not entering information. Why the hell would I want to put up my home address, telephone numbers etc... I have no applications besides the very basics. Any activity I make (which isn't often) is as private as can be.

Another thing that is... very weird. On the profile privacy settings page, we are informed that...

"Now there is an "Everyone" option for sharing.
If you choose, you can now open your Profile and share information with everyone on Facebook for broader distribution and better sharing. None of your settings have changed with this new option."

Better sharing? Broader distribution? What am I - a product? Ok so I am being distributed around Facebook with every friend I add, every new band I add to my music list, every new status update? Oh dear...

I just use it for communication just as you do and have barely anything on my profile. I do enjoy the tetris app though :D

I really hate the new facebook layout. It's nearly impossible to tell whether something is a wall post or a status now (at least I think so). It's also annoying that the location of notifications had been changed. I had a bunch of invitations that I didn't even notice until today. And is it just me or have the numbers ads on facebook increased?

I consider Facebook and other similar services as so useless that I won't even set up an account.

Since i'm rather new to facebook, I haven't noticed much of a difference in the layout. I am more obsessed with myspace. I have 312 friends on myspace and have only ever met about 20% of them in real life. I think one of my obsessions as an aspie is people who are different.

Yeah, I agree with your sentiments about the like option...
If someone likes what I wrote, I'd rather them say what they like about it than just click like and move on.

I use Facebook in the hope of finding a woman I can have sex with.
Seriously, I just use it for the applications on there as one of my backups got corrupted and I was getting a little withdrawal symptoms. But now, I am recovering from my backup with only one corrupt file - and that one isn't important.
Now I will soon be able to play proper games :-)

I find facebook is really useful.

I keep my lists of movies I've enjoyed there, books I like or have, and things that I'd like to see/read.
My blogs automatically link/post there.
My twitter automatically updates my status there.

I use it for "in the field" uploading of photos from the blackberry. Normally I use Picassa online (which also automatically updates my facebook account).

If I find something I'd like to share (eg: on youtube or on someone else's blog) then I post it to my profile using the supplied buttons - or shareaholic in firefox). That way, I'm not bugging people with emails they don't want to receive. If they're interested, it's on my FB page.

It's the glue between my applications.

I mostly use facebook for communication with my friends, I really like the ability to blog and post links and pictures. Plus, it's not the eye-bleeding and ear-stabbing mess that Myspace tends to be.

I filled out the information stuff so people can learn a little more about me, but I'm very picky about friends. Anything major is going to be emailed, not facebooked.

I've only been on the site once and that was to try to track down a friend I'd lost touch with years ago. He wasn't registered so it was a waste of time anyway. I can see the fascination with such sites, but can also see how hollow and superficial they must seem after a while. All these people who are supposed friends but in reality it is just a game to see who can get the highest number. Perhaps some people can strike up real and lasting friendships on there?

I've found distant cousins on facebook, so the possibility is there.

I've promised myself to start de-friending people if I hit 75. I don't need that many people knowing how I'm doing.

I don't look at it that way at all. In fact, offhand unless I went looking to check, I'd have no idea how many "friends" I had. In any case, if it were a game, It would hardly be worth my time playing as I don't have enough friends.

That said, I've met quite a few people there, same as I have here, who are great like-minded friends.

The other thing about FB is that when you can see everyone's status updates at a glance, somehow it's nice/interesting to be able to see what your friends and relatives are up to.

I actually have my home address and phone numbers on my profile, but they are only visible to 8 friends- saves the trouble if any of them ever looses my number/wants to send me a present but doesn't want to ask for address :D
