Opera is rolling out new Google AI features across its Opera One, Opera GX and Opera Neon browsers. This is the result of the browser maker's long running partnership with the search giant, and now includes support for the latest Gemini models.

The new Opera AI appears as a side panel that users can open alongside any webpage, set of tabs, or even playing videos. It will respond within the context of the page, allowing tasks such as research, summaries and tab comparisons. It also supports voice input and output, along with file analysis on images and video.

The updated engine is built for speed, with a new architecture from Opera Neon that allows 20 percent faster responses. Privacy controls let users decide what information is shared with Opera AI.

Last week Opera released a significant update to Opera Neon, bringing Google Gemini 3 and Nano Banana support to the experimental browser it introduced two months ago to test agentic browsing features. The update also added a one minute mode to the Opera Deep Research Agent.

“AI is reshaping how people interact with the web, and the browser is the natural entry point for those experiences,” said Per Wetterdal, EVP Commercial at Opera. “Through our partnership with Google, we are able to offer users the experiences they really want through native search and AI features, for free, directly in their Opera One and Opera GX browsers while our most advanced users of the agentic Opera Neon browser are already getting access to Gemini 3 Pro.”

“Our long-standing partnership with Opera is a testament to our shared vision for an innovative ecosystem,” said Per Gustafsson, Managing Director Nordics at Google. “By integrating the latest Gemini models, Opera is not just enhancing its browsers, but setting a new standard for AI-powered user experiences. We are proud to provide the cutting-edge AI capabilities that help partners like Opera thrive and continue to shape the future of browsing for millions of users worldwide.”

Opera views AI as a core part of browsing behavior. In its recent earnings report it recorded a 17 percent annual rise in query revenue, reflecting user actions across its browsers that extend beyond classic search. It says that its AI tools are designed to support richer interactions, helping people identify products and services and connect with online platforms inside the browser.

“We’re seeing a clear and positive shift as AI-powered search becomes more widely adopted, including features such as Google’s AI Overviews and emerging AI modes,” Opera's Wetterdal said. “These developments encourage users to explore more deeply, which aligns well with our long-term focus on building products that drive meaningful engagement. As an independent browser, we are excited about our ability to work with ecosystem partners and contribute to our users’ experience whether they use Opera AI alone or in combination with any other AI platform of their choice.”

You can find out more and download the updated browsers at opera.com

Side note: I'm thinking on giving Opera another try one day. I used an old version ages ago. I like the idea of the VPN built in. Do others here use Opera and what do you think of it :?:

Used to think Opera was a independant browser from others . Had it for awhile , was thinking it was giving me a measure of protection from big brothers snooping and selective results information only sanctioned by the US government . It saddens me to lose one more browser to the powers that be.
( I came from the time when , Meta seaches would give you results from your choice of browsers around the world .)
perhaps you can understand , why I miss , non- propagandized  versions of search results . Often I try my searches for important topics from various browsers .

Somebody once suggested trying Opera when we were talking about browsers. I was considering it. A built-in VPN sounds great, but AI is a deal breaker. Guess Opera is permanently off the list.

Oh yeah, I forgot abut that AI (I don't ever use it nor do I trust it) might also be off my list as well. Thanks for reminding me even though its in the title lol ... guess I should stick with ungoogled Chrome with extensions.

Does anybody here have and experience with Epic Privacy Browser? Its an Indian Chrome based browser that includes and built in proxy. I've not tried it and will wait until I know more. Thank you in advance.

Honestly, Firefox is still the best web browser for escaping from the technocracy. It's one of the few browsers that isn't based on Chrome (so no having to deal with Google's enshittification efforts), and it's the only major browser that still supports Windows 7 (the last non-botnet version of Windows).

It's one of the options here, with Chrome, but either eventually ends up as something called Quant.

I don’t particularly like any of them, as none take me directly to what I ask for (as used to be the case) preferring pages of little direct relevance. When I type in “XXXXXXX sign in”, why don’t they get that I just want to sign in, not wade through pages of “how tos” and the like?

Another option for windows 7 is Pale Moon - its a Firefox fork and I do use it from time to time. I run windows 10 and 11 for my everyday use and I use Linux also sometimes but not that often. Sometimes I use XP and 7 in a Virtual Machine.

Let us know how you like Pale Moon and they have most of the extensions on their page.

Enjoy

AI in this context seems to mean providing what you really meant (?) instead of what you asked for? Why do I have to usually go thought 2 or 3 pages before getting to where I really wanted?

As for the big brother aspect, well, when I described the benefits of Tryptophan on Quora, they deleted it as “spam”. Nothing to do with the fact that BigPharma would rather sell you Prozac, right?

I recommend this browser to everyone. Its a privacy fork of FireFox with no telemetry whatsoever. I find I can log in here with no problem. I also have no issues logging in to takethislife.com with it. Only thing is its only supported on Windows 10 and 11. Overall a very good browser but no built in proxy or VPN but that is ok ... some might say a built in VPN isn't the same as a primary installed VPN at the network end not the browser. I recommend going with the portable version (2nd option on the page).

Whilst librewolf browser is good for browsing the web privately and listening to songs on youtube, when trying to embed the player here on WP throws and 503 error so I use it for other things but for my music on here I prefer to use ungoogled Chrome or FF 146 with my trusty user.js file (combo of arkenfox and betterfox and my personal tweaks) I've spent time to create. So if you enjoy posting music on here like I do you may want to look elsewhere.

As you can see we live in a chrome world and FireFox is still in 4th place as of today. Opera is in 6th place.

For those that enjoy Firefox browser, I would recommend you grab yourself portable versions of 140 ESR from here for safe keeping.
