Hey everyone, I myself am a major computer security enthusiast and I have another friend whom has AS that is also heavily interested in Comp Sec.... Curiosity eventually got the better of me and I decided I would make a thread to see how many aspies share this interest with me.

I personally code, vuln / bug hunt, I've written several exploits, I have had to RE software before. Run my own network with a few servers at home to fuel my research and entrain the little free time I have. Alas I have found myself a member of underground comp sec groups in the past and present am curious to know if this too is a trend shared amongst ourselves.

Does anyone else share this passion with me?

i do, at times updating and fixing norton (<<not the closer!) also i answer questions from people who im me with their antiviral problems (windows here, i know, aspies hate windows)

as far as communities for computer security, i every day look at processlibrary.com's forum(hate spammers there) also interpet and help people with their hijackthis logs, also another place i go to is the q&a board and chat room and articles for smartcomputing.com as well as gotoassist remote software boards (i have not yet used the software but almost did with a novice)

thinking of participating in geekstogo.com and bleepingcomputer.com to help out as well,

2 best items of defense with computer security, user browsing habits AND security utility up to date and turned on.

its nice to find that another aspie is into protection of computers as well

btw, like the avvie?

lol is that a metallic arm operating a laptop keyboard?

I thankfully have a full time job getting paid to do what you do, but thats awesome to see someone helping out. I personally spend my free time in front of a computer doing research or playing with new software. Been spending alot of time bug hunting on juniper netscreen firewalls. looking to create a POC exploit for admin access within the year... might have just finally found the magic bug last month ;)

I'm pretty much in the same boat as naughtrobot... I get paid to be a Comp Sec guy. :)

so this technically makes you a programmer/tech?? i would be best working at a isp tech support desk, i have helped out like 3 aol techs over the years and 1 verizon hardware installation tech (the people who come out and install broadband for you) and ALOT of fellow users of both AOL and verizon dsl/broadband

how i got interested, from having security problems myself with win xp and win 98 and ME, i got annoyed with having to learn a forign language or be told the same thing i arleady know and did and didnt work, i did trial and error and got a better understanding of what happens and WHY it happens.

being i dont work though im stuck doing nothing but housework so rest of day i use the computer and isntead of killing brain cells by watching endless videos on youtube, i figure i would put my knowlage (gained by trial and error and works) to some use, i also go into computer help chat rooms and (when i had aol) people would im and email as well as in chat room give me a case number (im not an aol customer support rep!) and would say, im having the same problem, HELP!! beingi get alot of novices, a program such as gotoassist, VNC, webx or teamviewer comes in REALLY handy,

about that metallic arm thing, that is actually a door closer (those things that pull door shut and are mounted at top) its brand is NORTON so i figured also since i have (in past and even now) used symantec products figured i would make an avator with a door closer (hardware version of norton) using a computer that has software version of norton(symantec)

avvie also whos 2 interests, commercial door hardware and computers, in this case merged

I just dig playing with computers at a low level, Had a play with a few virus kits, understand the fundamentals but have not gone out of my way to deliberately hack.
I don't really believe in security - Nothing can be 100% secure and still be usable.

I'm often called upon to remove viruses and fix computers and am often in awe of the deviousness of some of the nasty little b*****s although I think proper virus writing disappeared with DOS I haven't seen a good encrypting partition virus for years :) Most modern worms are kluged together by script kiddies nowadays with one or two real clever ***s writing the kits.

Also despite the general consensus an up to date patched XP box is safe enough if your sensible.

About 10 years ago I used to be a script kiddy. I rooted some random company's server and gave it to someone who I thought was my friend. He rm -rf /'ed the server, I was pretty distraught because I never wanted to do any damage.
