I made it from an empty V8 can (=12 fl oz), a tiny motor with a rotator @ frequency of 10000rpm w/ an off center spin plate off the shaft to create a vibration. Attached are sort-of wings so it buzzes. Robot then 'walks' across the floor. I have carpet in my apartment but the kitchen has linoleum so V8 can 'walk. V8 runs on 2 AAA batteries and I attached wire 'legs.' Fun! Ok...I'd best do something constructive now, like study! Just had to share. My cat, Tesla, is afraid since V8 emits a hum from vibration.

i've always wanted to make a robot but i only know how to make one with the lego mindstorm, which is so expensive that i can't get one home.

if you really like robots you can get one of those lego mindstorm kits, there are sensors and motors and you can write programs and tell the robot to do things.

Thanks! V8 walks quite well from vibrational frequency. And buzzes. I put a leash on V8 to gently guide him along a pathway too.

My advisor, a neuroscientist (I like very much), walks V8 on his leash on the lineoleum lab floor hallway! I must take a pic, but I still do have a digital camera - yet. I have 'lab stickers,' like skull & crossbone poison, the hazard code diamond, and orange/black cancer hazard to decorate the V8 can. My other instructor, another neuroscientist, thinks V8 is really neat too. My cat, Tesla, temporarily 'loaned' V8 his little black rhinestone leash for walks in the lab. V8 walks on his own (via off-spin rotator from motor shaft) but can be gently guided with the leash too.

Can you make one to deal with "normal" people so I don't have to? Shouldn't be too hard - it wouldn't need to make much sense.

I saw an article in MAKE magazine once about building a small vibrating bug sort of robot that vibrates around the table top.
Haven't built it yet though.

The grin on my face is actually from the idea that you have such a cool interest (building unique things) aside from your studies at school.

I predict one day that humans will need robots for hanky panky. I could have used one years ago. I liked the idea because there was no emotion involved. I may resurrect my interest in such a Bot if you could make one, labpet. You have the talent!
