Can anybody tell me of a good alternative to Windows Live Messenger? I've used Pidgin and Miranda before. While they have great features they also lack in certain areas. I'd probably say that I prefer Pidgin over Miranda though because of the interface, and because of all the good plugins that are included by default. The only thing that bothered me about Pidgin was that it crashed a lot, and the file-transfers went extremely slow. I can't tolerate any kind of software that crashes often and the slow transfers just really bugged me (I have highspeed, why should I send and receive files at the speed of dialup?) Anyways, if anybody has something better to recommend let me know, thanks.

BTW, did anybody out there have the same problem with Pidgin? Does it or did it crash a lot for you? Thanks.

I use Trillian and friends use Gaim. I think Gaim is the better of the two, but I lost my contacts using it, so went back to Trillian.

Gaim is actually Pidgin, they had to change their name to Pidgin due to copyright laws. I don't want to use Trillian because they include adware with their software unless you purchase the pro version. To me that is a load of BS. Why would I want to pay money for something when I can get it for free?

I use Windows Live Messenger, it covers MSN, Yahoo, and now AOL too. Easier than having a bunch of different ones open.

I'm gonna try AMSN out. I remember trying it out a few years ago and thought it seemed pretty neat.

I use Kopete sometimes, which has more features than Pidgin.

It supports web cams, and many protocols.

Just tried out AMSN and HATED it. It uses up way too much memory, the interface is ugly and it just plain sucks. I'll give kopete a try, I've never heard of that before.

Trillian is good, although file transfers between two computers running trillian don't seem to work, at least for me.

I don't know if it is available for Windows systems. It may be (see google).

It is in the repositories for many Linux distros and comes standard on most that use KDE as default.
