Are you running Vista or XP?

Xp (and it is suitable for Xp) I've installed the mp3 converter and windows media player 11, like it asked, but there aren't any drivers on the CD or online.

Have you tried it without the drivers? Just click on "my computer" find the Sony, click on that, and see what comes up. then drag and drop a mp3 file into the sony icon. disconnect the sony and see if the song is there.

sometimes they make it much more complicated than needed. Sony is probably the king of this.
