Rochester Physicist's Quantum-"Uncollapse" Hypothesis Verified

Interesting article:

Does this knock the bottom out of the principle of secure quantum computing? Would it be possible for Eve to intercept communications between Alice and Bob without detection because Eve could weak measure the information then undo the damage she had done by intercepting it? Would enough "weak" information be enough to crack the encryption?

It sure seems that way.

"The best kept secrets are known to only one man." -- Unknown

Anytime information is transferred, there is a risk of interception, no matter how secure the method. The trick is to conceal the actual transfer, and not just the information alone.

This phenomenon was discussed in a grad course I took in the implementation of quantum computation several years ago.

I will make the assumption that the security of quantum computation that you are referring to is actually the quantum cryptography protocols that are in use or proposed.

As I remember (as this concept was not in the direct line of my interest), this would not result in Eve being able to retrieve useful information unless Eve had godlike powers to control darkcounts, cosmic rays, and other unlikely events. 8O

As far as I can remember, all of this could actually be solved by changing things. However, it is not likely, or necessary.
