Um, not to be stupid or anything, but what exactly IS zero point energy? The only time i'v heard of it is in an animated sci-fi movie, and I doubt that could accurately describe it.

Does that have anything to do with the black hole making Large Hadron Collider being tested for the first time in September?

my only experience is when combining various explosives to make the most effect charge.
you combine the different percentages and you work out the oxygen content of the resultant combination and the closer it is to zero the maximum charge you have in your combination, so you can tweek the combination of various mixtures to work out the best and higherst energy content of you mixture of explosives with a zero energy balance/maximun explosive effect.

basically the idea that matter is just wound up energy, energy is just
wound up space, and theres a theory that empty space is just something even more basic coiled up on its self. Basically extracting energy from nothing.

In sci-fi I think they use the term zero point energy in the quantum sense, i.e. the energy of empty space (virtual particles, the casimir effect and whatnot).

To my knowledge, there is no use for this stuff.
